Hi! My name is Michelle and I just read an article in the New York Times about how truckers are feeling like "throw-away people". This made me incredibly sad, I run a small animal rescue and I call the little guys that I rescue "throw-away pets" so this struck a chord with me.

There is a Love's truck stop near my home where a few truckers sleep. I am very appreciative of all the truckers on the road and I would like to do something nice for these people who work so hard.

Would it be odd or inappropriate to cook simple meals or bake cookies or brownies and package them up and take them up there to the drivers from time to time?

If you feel this is a good idea, any tips on how best to execute this would be appreciated. I was thinking how hard they work and how long they go without a home cooked meal or someone doing a simple, kind gesture for them showing their appreciation for what they do for us.

This location does not have a restaurant except for an attached Arby's, so I don't believe I would be competing with anyone by handing out preplated homemade meals once in a while. Also, I would definitely include a list of ingredients used in case someone is allergic to anything in the food.

Please give me any thoughts and ideas on this, I would really appreciate it!

Not inappropriate but me personally I wouldn't accept anything to consume from a stranger.
But a BIG THANKS TO YOU ANYWAY.

Yeah, I see your point. That sucks that we live in a world where such a simple, kind gesture would be taken as suspicious.

My mind still lives in the old days where this would be a welcome gesture but I totally get where you're coming from.

Sadly, thank you so much for your point of view.

What you are proposing to do would be especially nice during holidays.

Thank you for your appreciation. You even took the time to find this site and express your thoughts.
First be straightforward and upfront with the management at the Love's. Tell them why you will be on there lot giving out whatever it is. Be sure they understand that you are nor running a 'side line business'. If they tell you no, then find a way around their "no". Do it anyway and hope for the best.

Maybe you could bring some of the puppies and put a little stand to "greet and meet" the truckers. This way any goodies would look less dubious. I am sure Loves would be cooperative. A few minutes of interaction with the fur babies would brighten anyone's day!

Do what I do around Christmas time go to the store and buy a case of candy bars, usually regular chocolate one's and then pass them out. I do it at Christmas time as a thank you to my customers at the schools and restaurants that I deliver to. It's easy to do it's safe because there candy bars and your not selling them so it's a freebie, even if the people don't like candy bars they will appreciate the gesture and that's what it's really about.
