    Someone that gets it!
Most people see that signal and that you're having to crowd the zipper and just keep on hammering.
To hell with everyone else !

I look WAAAAY down the road and anticipate.. but even I get caught in a pinch sometimes.

Thanks for being a REAL PRO.

Lots of great opinions and reflections of past courtesies. Now, let’s set emotions aside and look at what the law says. (I understand phrasing is different between states, but the laws are the same)

The minimum following distance is “...enough distance between vehicles that another vehicle may safely merge between them”. It is written that way to be open to interpretation by LE. This means anyone driving so close to the vehicle in front of them that another can’t merge in is following too close.

Next, a vehicle already in the right of way has priority over a merging vehicle. It is the responsibility of the merging driver to adjust accordingly to SAFELY merge with traffic. If you jerk over into a lane so close your license plate can’t bee seen and someone has to stand on their brakes, you failed to yield the ROW

So, in the Ops scenario, while the drivers in the hammer lane were following too closely, it is the granny lane driver that must safely merge with the hammer lane.

Last point: the move over/slow down laws apply to ANY vehicle with flashing lights (hazards included)

Opinion: just because you have a turn signal on doesn’t mean anyone is obliged to make way for you. You aren’t special and they have the ROW. Pack your ego, slow down and merge behind the driver.

Citation needed, post a link if possible for this definition. Preferably from a state driving manual.

That’s an Interstate basic. No ROW in left lane. AND cannot block access.

    Had many
My uncle and me rarely agree on much except that there are so few real drivers left. it is a dying group. they get dumber and dumber every year. I am not even talking backing,or how they look those are irrelevant more so are manners, respect, pride few key ingredients known all too well to servicemen or women hell even a veteran officer perhaps. To get the job done and return safely.

I have spoken about my uncle and me several times on these forums but my grandfather who was born in 1904 remembers when he used to drive and when he was in service they have surely changed he says there is no more truckers period.
One good thing he mentioned back in his day Unions were a good thing for one. Nowadays he said they are an old piece of equipment that must be replaced. By that, he means laws to ensure good quality drivers for the future. removing these CDL handouts and making companies pay for everything, instead of having unions would do same just give you a portion of what you are owed.
He knows all too well that military will use old equipment over and over till eventually replaced but like unions, policies structure they must change for different for it to go forward. He said Truckers may not like the changes at first they will be the test subjects always but for it to happen they must endure.

His fav president was IKE. He thinks only soldiers deserve the commander and chief title his thoughts. lol

Where do people get this idea that a turn signal is a command to other drivers ?

You have a grandfather born in 1904 who is still alive ? He's probably the oldest male human on earth. I believe 116 is as old as any man ever got.
