Looks like the black truck left a lot to be desired in the load securement department as well.

To my understanding chains were not allowed, I carry steel edge protectors with a heavy rubber coating on them for situations where I feel straps are inadequate. Course the shipper may not have even agreed to the edge protectors I have….FerrissWheel, cke, booley and 5 others Thank this. -
Remember the problem was on his blindside too, so he'd have to 'GOAL' to see the issue.
In the news story, that @OLDSKOOLERnWV posted, there's a shot that shows at least one axle of the trailer wheels off the ground - and another where the (huge) overhang of the beam got stuck in the dirt. In the photo you can see where the beam was dragged on the pavement.
At that stage, the trailer is somewhat suspended by the beam - via the straps, which at that angle of twist from the tractor, - laid the beam flat. Chains directly to the beam would have kept it upright, but at that stage, nothing really mattered anymore.Last edited: Jul 5, 2024

This is also my competition. Probably bid cheap on the loads to get them, then MAY or MAY NOT have done the research on what was actually going to work. It used to be that brokers/agents would leave me with the details of a load, and I'd get back to them in an hour or two after some preliminary research - on what equipment was needed, costs, route - etc.
And sometimes - I'd point them in the right direction, like "You need a 3 axle extendable", or " You'll need a 53-90' trailer, not a 48-80' " .
I'm only as good as my last load. I won't sign up for something I can't 95% guarantee will be completed without incident.
Now - they want an answer on the spot, and their price expectation is cheap. As much as I dislike amusement at another drivers mistake - this is exactly what you get. It's going to cost them a lot of money - and whoever is responsible for going for cheap, instead of quality and safety, I hope they learn a lesson.
No permits/Incorrect measurements given/ no comms with pilot cars / no planning - for $2,000 less per load? Cool - have at it.
Now what is the cost?

Sounds to me the DOH is trying to cya. You know #### well they will give a screwed up routing in a skinny minute. Also if these beams are going to a bridge construction on route 10 it’s quite possible that this is the only way into the job.
