SC and NC allow more than 34,000 on tandems. Some states allow up to 20,000 on steers, if the tires and axles are rated for it. Steer axle ratings is another of those things that never gets checked and I never checked my axle weights in NC and SC, good to go as long as I didnt think it it was over gross then I might scale it.

Great advice! I purchased a glossy Rand McNally atlas and what a big mistake! My thought process was how much i hated unlaminated topographical maps in the Army and this would be a big improvement.

Good luck reading the #### thing under led lights.

Also, get a truck gps! I see alot of drivers bad mouthing them while using google navigation on their phones when they get lost. No No No! I'm a Google fanboy but certainly not in a Semi! A Garmin will have you in the right lane in a city you've never been in, driving in situations you are unaccustomed to let alone in a semi. An atlas is backup for when your gps dies. You really should learn how to navigate by map though if you don't know how. Regardless there is a ton of useful info.

*A pro feature i learned on my Garmin was to use two profiles. One with weight empty and the other at 80k. Believe it or not in hilly western Wisconsin to N. Illinois, the Garmin shaved 30 minutes off a typical 2 run day. I should have known better, lol.

** Protip 2 - Drop a pin on google maps, it gives you the gps coordinates, plug those into truck gps = $$$ Money!

I haven't actually looked at Rand McNally map in probably 10 plus years but for a green newbie asking about axle weights and lengths, Garmin aint gonna help with that. Googlemaps is all you need with a little common sense. I've never been in a bad situation with one.

And don’t buy a cheap Garmin either! Made that mistake once. All your savings you thought you had get burned up on fuel. Went to the same warehouse from the same shipper, 4 times in a row. And the freaking thing tried to take me a different route every time. And all through the dinghy weeds of nowhere OH. Buy an expensive one

    This.
In addition in some jurisdictions (the State of Texas for example) soliciting a prostitute is a FELONY charge, that will end your career very quickly.

First job I got driving truck, the Boss and me did about 10 minutes of me driving around the countryside. Took me around some sharp turns, and through town. He told me to head for the shop, gave me a load number, and told me to go grab a load of fertilizer. done, deal.

My first job was at Covenant and I had a truly excellent trainer - shout out to Daniel Hayden!!!
I will tell you though, once I was driving solo for another company, I always asked for someone to spot me when the spots were tight. I'd rather be safe than sorry! And of course, I don't care how many times I have to GOAL - I do it!

Sometimes even the most seasoned drivers have to get out and look around to see what they’re dealing with at loading docks.
