I am new to the industry and want to get a better grasp on the industry. In particular, what are the biggest problems that you face on a day-to-day basis? Or within the industry itself. Any insights would be helpful. Thanks!

4 wheelers, 18 wheelers aircraft and everything in between. If it's in this world, a trucker is and will have a problem with it. Me? The sun. F that thing. I hate it's heat.

Well, just visualize this : Dispatch assigns you a load. You get the pick-up address and delivery address and delivery date. From this point forward, you're on your own. You will drive in strange cities looking for your pick-up location, be responsible for loading the freight (paperwork, logistics etc) then head out, being responsible along the way for logging/truck issues that may come up/fueling/staying in touch with the shipper/broker/consignee, finding the delivery address, getting the load un-loaded etc. You'll deal with lots of people telling you what to do, such as security people at guard shacks, office personnel, even lumpers ! Not to mention police agencies, your dispatcher, fuel desk people. And the kicker is most of these people are half as educated as you are.

    • Too many inconsiderate truck drivers on roads and in truck stops and at shippers and receivers, and anywhere else they congregate
    • The trade has gone to crap the last 10 years, is the short answer

The industry problems depend on your section of the industry. If you haven't noticed, it seems that the most miserable of the bunch have to perform at the grocery warehouse circus act.

You can find problems anywhere but trucking is pretty great.
