We’re a mid-sized fleet (name omitted for privacy) specializing in dry van, refrigerated, and tanker freight, mostly local. I don’t have much of a background in the trucking industry, as my experience is more focused on specialized and tech-driven organizational development. When I started looking into the recruiting scene, I was surprised to find that such a large industry doesn't have a more specialized approach to online recruiting. That's why I came here, and many of the responses have been incredibly helpful.

I agree, 'We treat you like family' is definitely overused. One thing I’ve discussed with the company owners is that you have to pay well to attract good talent—that’s just the reality. Right now, they're struggling with retaining Gen Z applicants as they begin entering the industry. Most of them rely heavily on online job postings to find opportunities.

I’m from the south side. You know why they’re called the projects right? They’re not done! I’ve seen some REAL stuff near Comiskey after some games. Jobs? about a million posted a day.

I don’t know how more online it can get. Indeed, Monster all the others, Along with Craigslist. All apps must be filled out online. Everyone claims to be hiring. Many aren’t, they’re just running ads because they know the need will arise. Good paying Local jobs are hard to find. They shouldn’t have any problem finding and keeping Drivers. The only reason I can imagine they need you is to handle the media advertising.

Why pay drivers more? Just find out what lies they want to hear and go fishing for cheap employees. Hire someone sitting at a computer making 6 figures, not even doing their own research, then lie to drivers who don’t ask the right questions. There’s a sucker born every minute right? Drivers are just a necessary nuisance right? “Come join our family”

That seems to be the game plan. Fell for it myself recently. I misjudged the people. Their OTR drivers make 55cpm, run 1500 miles and sit 3-4days, before coming back. They currently are running an ad on Craigslist advertising $1800wk. solo, $2200-$2400 Team. The recruiter is an idiot. Thinks highly of himself, and his talent. It’s hilarious, only reason he has a job is because he’s family.

There’s a company I know that has kept the same help for years. They’re in high demand to work for and the employees don’t quit. They have a basic philosophy. They pay better than anyone else around. They have good help that wants to be there and they can afford to fire the lousy help because they have no trouble filling the vacancy. We’re all doing it to make money. If we can’t do better anywhere else it’s amazing what we’ll put up with.
