This one is on Teton pass coming into Jackson Hole from the west.

There used to one that squeezed the truck between converging walls, I think that was on La Veta pass, but I can't find it on Google.
Interesting new runaway truck ramp built by UDOT.

I watched them build this last summer. It went up pretty quick, so my guess is most of the money went to the engineers. I get a backhaul out of Logan about once a month (averaging it out) and go this way back to Cheyenne since it's a lot shorter route than going all the way down to I-84. Just went through there last week.
There's a few of these things in Wyoming. including one where the old ramp is a gravel runway up a hill but on the other side of the road. The new catch net system is on the right side (downhill side) of the road, but it failed when a little hotshot hit it. I suppose if the worst happens, I'll hit the catch net, but if you give me a choice, I'm going to cut across oncoming traffic and take the gravel runway.
As many runaway ramps as I pass, I actually think about what I would do. (I drove over Monarch Pass both ways today, for example. Nice sunny day with dry roads, which is always nice.) I hope I never have to find out for real. The one on the west side of Monarch is a real short gravel ramp with about 15 rows of sand barrels at the end of it. If those don't stop you, the rock on the side of the mountain will.

Some runaway ramps, i sometimes think to myself if u even make it to the ramp u would be lucky as hell.... Theres one out in arizona through the salt river canyon. It is like maybe 1 truck length long of gravel and at the end is just a wall of solid rock... i thought what a great design eh, just kill urself if u lose ur breaks or have mechanical failure either way u will die on that one... there is lots of them that just make no sense , better off just putting it in the ditch and hope for the best. Hope i never have to make that decision

Also, that pass is closed to truck traffic in the winter. WYDOT does their best to discourage drivers from taking that route. I've never gone to Victor, Idaho, but I have driven down through Jackson on 26/191 and then taken 26 to Idaho Falls. It's a pretty drive, but Jackson is a nightmare of tourists in RVs.

You can try as hard as you want but it's not going to fix stupid.
Not a chance in hell they'll get through, but just like steep grades they just keep coming.
