What's the catch?
Surely, Cummins/Paccar/Detroit/Volvo have entertained the thought of "hey I bet we can get rid of EGR if we just use way more DEF/SCR".
So why don't they? Getting rid of EGR sounds like a huge win for maintenance/reliability. Why is International the only one doing it? Why did everyone else decide against it?
International S13 too good to be true?

The last "genius" engine idea International had that was supposed to be so much better than everyone else's engines was the Maxxforce...and we all know how successful that pile of horse excrement engine was.

Ya, but either European or Australian trucks use that approach. I forget witch….

Current model S13 still does use EGR. It uses it very little, with no cooler. 2027 model is planning to omit EGR all together. Yes, SCR is that good now. S13 uses 2 stage SCR with dual injectors for DEF. One is behind the turbo, second injector is in the normal location before a catalyst.
