Wisconsin, has their ramps posted NO PARKING, and I know Nebraska has the no ramp parking law on the books, but rarely see it posted . And with that did you all know Nebraska is closing a lot of truck parking areas, and rest areas on I-80

North Carolina does not enforce it, except on posted ramps. But you may wake up to a DOT inspection. Virginia strictly forbids it on interstate ramps and enforces it.

I can remember running I5 from central California to Washington to visit family who moved up there in the late 1990's. I typically would drive my pickup at night, it was about 700 miles. Oftentimes I would pull over on the offramps and park behind the semis, on the on ramps and take a nap then run some more. Almost every on ramp had trucks parked. Offramps seemed to be off limits as traffic coming off the freeways at speed might hit a parked vehicle. Onramps are another story because traffic is accelerating from a slower speed to a higher speed.
Well as the 2000's came on, especially after the hours of service change, you didn't see any more truckers parked on on ramps to the freeways any more. I suspect these guys had been driving 5 on 5 off before (which you could get away with short time parking during the dark and move on nobody cared), but with a 10 hours solid off a big truck becomes an eyesore and law enforcement and communities started hustling these truckers out of there. I saw this a lot in Stockton CA, around 8 mile road, there is now a huge shopping center at I5 but years ago that was prime truck parking all around there. They hustled all the truckers out of there and Flying J came to Lodi and built their little parking lot. Now with the 60 hours 34 hour restart and mandatory 30 minute break that will create a need for 50,000 more truckers I predict major parking problems. -
You can t blame some of these states saying NO PARKING on ramps. As truckers we sometime can be our own worst enemies at time. Somebody has to fix the potholes and trenches left on the shoulders of exit ramps, somebody has to pick up all the garbage and human waste left along side of the ramp. And a few instances I ve seen trucks rollover parked on ramps due to the load shifting. Like some of the other posters said the only time I parked on ramp was when I was broke down and made it to a safer place for the mechanic to work on my truck or trailer. Otherwise I have better things to do with my money than pay 150 to 500 dollars to park on a ramp

I see a few trucks siting on the side of the on ramp arpund exits 117 and 112 along I-65 south in TN. As I am heading home from my 2nd shift job just across the sate line in KY. I see 2 or 3 trucks there almost evey night as I go by.

my reason too. i would just as soon park on a out in the country off ramp then go to a mega carrier truck stop that is full by 5 or 6 oclock in the afternoon. but then i hate other people in general anyway. i'm anti-social though
