interview with buffalo biodiesel tomorrow

    the company i have been working for has been good to me, im not here to complain about them. dump truck is somewhat seasonal and the veteran drivers are getting what work is left. i have not worked since friday. living on unemployment is not enticing, so i guess im looking for something else at least for the winter..... maybe return to my current job in the spring. anyways i have a 9:30 am interview with buffalo biodiesel and i was wondering if anyone here worked for them or had any experience with them?

    so far what i know:
    class B tanker
    $16-20 per hour
    paid vacations after a year
    local work, home daily

    One of my former employers partnered with that company. I met a couple of their drivers, irregular hours was the main complaint I heard from them. This was about two years ago, maybe things have changed since. They seemed to have decent equipment and benefits from what they both told me at the time.

    My uncle lives in CT and drives dump trucks in the construction season, and snow plows in snow season. That pretty much keeps him employed year-round.

    i stopped and talked with my boss just to make sure is isnt me..... i have done fine im just at the low end of the totem pole. i just needed to clear my conscious

    Here in VA I see help wanted signs for seasonal snow plow paying $30 per hour. Sounds good unless they only pay when you are actually plowing snow in which case that was about $150 income last winter.

    absurd interview so many things felt downright wrong. they have tracking devices on all of the trucks, get caught doing 10 mph over the speed limit for 4 miles automatic termination. i dont speed but i dont need to be threatened before even accepting a job offer. he said that if you get caught taking any short cuts on a pre trip automatic termination. he went on for about 5 minutes telling me how he is going to fire me. look, i know safety is important but if your going to sit there and lecture me on how you are going to fire me, im not going to work for you. pretty simple

    adding insult to injury they make you take a stupid and irrelevant "aptitude test". i said what does this test have to do with my ability to drive a truck? they said if i dont like it, leave...... i finished the test just for the sake of finishing it, but it was completely irrelevant and had nothing to do with anything. one word, dumb.

    one more thing, they had me pee in a cup before even offering me a job. it was one of those cheap $20 test kits you buy at walmart. this is not normal procedure, while i dont have anything to hide, this just felt wrong. normal procedure is to be offered a job and then sent to a licensed drug test place before you hit the road. this felt completely wrong, and i dont even know if its legal for them to hand you a $20 kit and tell you to go to the bathroom BEFORE a job offer was even presented. the drug test was the type you would give your teenager if you suspected of them doing something.

    the trucks are toys, barely even a class B vehicle, reminds me of a flatbed tow truck. when fully loaded they weight 33,000 lbs and they are automatic. driving one of these things is not why i got a CDL. this is not trucking.

    the whole thing just smells like fish and i will not be taking a job with them.

    Perhaps they have a lot of applicants, and know they can be choosy about who they offer a job to.

    Some of us drivers can be pretty #### ornery and bullheaded at times. The person speaking to you might also have been testing your temperament. If they were a decent interviewer, and knows truck drivers, seeing your reactions probably gave them more of an idea about your attitude than you suspect.

    Don't take this as strong criticism, because I wasn't there, but I will tell you that any company worth a #### is going to say those sorts of things in an interview. Some companies will mean it.

    The cheap piss test before offering a job probably saves them hundreds if not thousands of dollars a year by catching drug-using morons before the company sinks any time or money into them.

    You're right to tell them to F! off!
    You don't need strife and conflict. That's their hell.
    I could go on and on about society getting more this way. As it is written: "waxing worse and worse". Companies around here are that way. They have revolving front doors. That what they want. That's what they get. Try to work for one of these? All you get is joining in on the fighting. They have no idea what the definition of a company is. They're supposed to be working together. Not against each other.
