They also have the 12v throw away coolers at the truck stops for $130. They cool like 40F the temp outside of the cooler. They only last about 8 month and you throw it away and get another basically

I don’t ever ask if a company allows them and I’ll give you the best reason I can personally think of, I don’t care. I’ll hook one up myself just make sure you have a proper fuse or breaker switch and the appropriate gauge wire and use conduit and grommets. It cost too much to not have a fridge and microwave on the truck. I’m hoping to upgrade to a pure sine wave inverter soon, yet I still don’t know if they are allowed

What do you do when the shop discovers your handywork?Swiss Mountain Dog, Opus, gentleroger and 1 other person Thank this. -
Dust buildup is the enemy.
I parked mine last month (I have a fridge now). It was 3 years old. It still worked fine.
If your fan goes out, You can replace the fan with a high speed computer cooling fan. I did that with one years ago. Just make sure to get the right size.
I’ve never had a heat exchanger go bad. But I’ve always kept them clean. Every 3-4 months is a must.Coover, Brandt, Truckermania and 1 other person Thank this. -
The problem with the cigarette lighter plug in type. That connection isn’t very good. You will get voltage drop at the connection. Then inverter indicates a problem. Hard wired is much better.
I have a 300w, 1800w pure sine wave also. Have a coolatron. Works good.
I went from a company lacking even an APU. To a company with fully equipped trucks. Now that stuff is sitting at home. Doh!
Also... best to have an inverter that handles twice the load you plan on. Take it easy on the inverter. It won’t heat up and fail.
I have a hot water pot. Also George Foreman grill. The grill uses less than the pot. Goofy electronic controls in the truck. Often threatening to shut down auxiliary power due to low battery voltage. Then the APU comes on. Doh!Last edited: Mar 25, 2019
