I just recently switched into a new 2014 Volvo that has the Delphi AM/FM/CD Bluetooth stereo with USB/AUX ports in dash. Now I know the Bluetooth works I've been able to connect and make calls also noticing it is tied in with the information display on dash showing call times, number, etc. My problem is when I plug my cable from phone into the USB port the stereo says "UNSUPPORTED DEVICE" and phone switches between charging to not charging every few seconds. I know the cables are good (tried both of the ones I have) because it was working fine in the Kenwood I had in the truck I just moved out of. Has anyone else run into this problem with the newer stereos? Thanks.

That means either you need a special cable for that sterio or the phone is unsupported. You should be able to play music from the phone using bluetooth. I would call the mfg of the radio if you are further concerned about it

Most likely the radio in the volvo is not designed for anything above the 4s. It may just need a firmware update. My kenwood wouldn't support my iphone and I found an update online. I had to put it on a flash drive then update the radio. As new devices come out the radios need to be updated. You would think a 2014 truck would have all the updates, but the radio may be a 2012 radio.

It's simply an unsupported device, that USB port is meant to be used for basically, music. And some additional diagnostic works, but mainly just as an audio player. You can load a few hundred songs on a USB stick, plug it in there, and use it as an MP3 player linked directly to your audio system.
In regards to your phone not charging off it; it wasn't designed to have a phone charge off the voltage provided- it's low voltage, just low enough to run the most basic of USB devices.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
I guess the solution is get a USB plug for you cirgeret lighter and charge your phone that way. Then you can just play music via bluetooth. -
The radio should put out plenty of power to charge the phone while connected. I have an Alpine IDA-X305S that will even charge and play from my ipad. As far as the problem using the 5S with your radio, try one of those 30 pin to lightning connectors. Some units don't like the lightning system, mine included, but will accept the unit with the adapter.

I actually have the same problem with my 3rd gen ipod touch it's annoying as hell since I hate having cable hanging in my truck anymore than absolutely needed .

A lot of systems simply don't support the iOS

Delphi hasn't been the best at updating the radios for iPhone. Another option would be to get a dash mount to hold the phone(it still should be ok as long as you use a headset for calls), then just run a good audio cable from the headphone jack to the audio input for the stereo. Another dislike I found with Delphis (at least older ones with the usb) is when I hook my iPod classic up it only lists album and playlist tracks in alphabetical order, instead of the actual order they are on the record. So basically if you are listining to a "concept" or live album (like "the wall" or "operation Mindcrime") the tracks will be out of order.

I haven't had any luck with my android phones through the usb port either. Charging OR music.
As for the Aux port. Volume is louder through bluetooth. And i like to crank when i'm driving.
