Insuring a man who owns the truck should always be cheaper than to cover a driver but it's not the case. @Hogleg knows more about a truck than most guys who've been driving a while. If one is not having to pay a driver it is worth it to pay a little extra just to get going. The rate will go down if there are no incidents
Is 61 too old to be a new driver?

Wonder if there is an insurance policy available for old classic semi's. To put this back on the road we have to pay $8500/yr in liability insurance. Don't mind that if we are going to work it but for now seems a shame I can't take it on the road for a short bobtail run or a little practice. Same with tags. Guess I could just run it around the pasture

Well, Well, Well... Looks like the insurance issue is solved in a not so good way! We recently received the update after we added the new truck and had asked to remove the old one that is OOS. They said that they cannot remove the old truck due to Federal regulations so we are paying for both trucks! $11K for the new one and $10K for the one we are not driving. ####! They said that guys used to have them take a truck off of the insurance, but continue driving it. Now the rule is I have to show the truck sold or the lease terminated, no exceptions. With the end dump our insurance is now running $23K per year.
We are now going to quickly get the peterbilt back on the road and will likely sell the International. Still working out the details. While this is being decided we are also planning to drop running grain and move to running a skate.
Gonna need some luck. -
I don't see why not. I saw a guy in TX had to be 80-90 years old. Truck was chromed out.

I will check into that @strollinruss Although we are really wanting to get the Pete back on the road. You thought the jacking was not that bad, right? We are getting all of the awful wiring and air lines cleaned up and thinking of running it with a skate like it is. Should be a lot less wear and tear than running an end dump. You agree?
Besides, you get no respect in an International. A guy blew by him in a Pete with a big Detroit a while ago and asked who was running in the minivan up the hill. No respect, I say....Has also been called a white elephant...
359 is the way to go.
