You can fix nearly anything. Take the first part off and put the new one on. If you get stuck call a shop, most of them will try to walk you through it or give you advice. Like ExOTR said, youtube is magical. Also in my opinion buying a new truck is the worst possible move you can make. Why add all the financial risk? Start small and build slowly. It doesnt matter what year the truck is you are going to have issues. Why instantly lose thousands of dollars in value once you leave the dealer? Take your time and shop for an old truck that was well maintained, look for private party sales, and craigslist ads. If you minimize risk you grow your chance of success! Good luck!
Is buying used the best Option?

I can tell you reason why i posted this was because everytime i ask for a opinion to one of my friends who owns a truck has always told me to buy NEW. He always says that new trucks dont break down (which is false). New trucks will have warranty (which has too be approved first). New trucks will mean less chance of getting inspected (Tell that too California Highway Patrol). I just think new is out of the question unless its a glider. Yes it may keep me away from breakdown headaches but tell that to my 2015 KW680 that broke down twice with less than 15000k over a sensor.

We agree that all trucks break down. Warranty has to be approved in some cases, and in all cases you pay for the warranty. Nothing will ever stop an inspection lol, but i always try to keep my truck clean and shiny so it doesn't look neglected. I think you're on the right track shying away from new. Honestly a new glider is still too much money starting out in my opinion. The biggest mistake made when buying a truck is lack of patience. Just relax and take your time and no matter what you choose to do, as long as you do it smart, will work out.

I'll give you a couple other pieces of advice.
First thing is don't get emotional over the truck. It is a tool. I've seen grown men cry because they could not get the Pete he wanted since he was a kid. It seems people get wrapped up in all of that. They are pretty much all the same, quality is almost all the same but it is service that counts, take that into consideration.
The second and most important thing is a two parter, do not buy a truck that doesn't fit your needs. Get an idea what you want to do, spec it out (visit a dealer or two and ask them to help with the specs) and the look for the truck you need. Do not worry about engines or transmissions or what ever, start using those specs. The second part is as important, remember this important phrase -
THERE ARE MORE TRUCKS CHASING OWNERS THAN THERE ARE OWNERS CHASING TRUCKS. Be patient, take your time and do not listen to the bs line " well it won't last because we had people already looking at it..." That's a bunch of crap.cjb logistics, blairandgretchen, Cw5110 and 2 others Thank this. -

Unless you run heavy haul, the 12.7 is the most efficient, and dependable engine ever made. Its only downfall is it can't handle the power demands of 120k lb loads.

Yeah I think my next truck will be a 389 glider. I'm not thrilled with my 07 KW T2000 lol
