I think you missed the sarcasm........ If you shift to aggressively it feels like someone rear ended the tank. o_O

A sign in a tanker company's drivers room..."Tankers don't have accidents, tankers have disasters".

    True then. True now.

Just remember that your load is always in motion. Anything you, as the driver, does will alter that motion. Easy does it. I slow down way sooner that I ever did pulling a box. You brake hard at the last moment coming into a curve you could have a real bad day.

If you are dedicated you will be busy running cargill or bungi and many other places. If you are OTR you will be busy running other places. Bottom line, you'll be busy during winter. Not necessarily mean your productivity will go up since you MUST be SAFE and adjust speed to driving conditions remember SAFETY is our first priority.

    • Be careful running up and down the tanker's latter.
    • Use a robber hammer to open up the latches of the hatch while you maintain a firm grip on yourself.
    • Keep diesel treatment for low temps you'll need it.
    • KEEP EXTRA COOLANT for the heating system of the tanker.
    • WOOD blocks under the landing gear to lift up the trailer higher.
    • Keep your feet warm, especially the left one, with the hot/red on getting air from outside and ac off fan blower only directed to your feet. You will need it to get a feel of the brake pressure necessary to minimize SURGE push. It will push you forward two to three inches on icy roads. Increase exponentially your following distance. do not speed.

JUST now getting to this; sorry. Well said, man. Well said. ONLY time I sit, is kinda on my foot over the dome on the catwalk, pumping my asphalt on or off. Yes I do both myself in the scheme of the gig I have; which is fine. Slippery as it gets colder, but too much colder and it won't flow...so I switch to prefab on flats. Yuck. <<<
Asphalt (6122 and 3257 my usual products) are hot, as well. I've got many a burn to prove it, even with the PPE.
I don't pull much (if any) hazmat .... can and will, just not the need; so I don't have to wear the 'suit' but it's always at the ready. (thinking I may wear it tonight just for s's and g's to keep warm, haha!

Well said, LITS. Were I more focused, I'd have beat ya to it. The surge is reality. It's what it is. Don't know that I could even PULL a van anymore, without waiting for it, LoL!! ;)

ps: Learned on an old EF 18 ... with a coffee cup McD's.... on the ground right in front of the shifter. Ask @x1Heavy .....

Congrats, man. Take it for all it's worth....... and it IS a badge of honor in and of itself. Respect the product more than your coffee, per se.

ask the company you plan on working for which is the busiest time of the year and which is the quietest and that should resolve your dilemma.

Very true. Hauling asphalt, I'm almost stagnant in the winter, but for pulling precast on flats or the unemployment (<<<NOPE!) route... LoL.
