I actually seen a truck did that.

There's a app I use that located all the mega truck stops plus ma n pa. Also rest area and Wal-Mart's but not all Wal-Mart allow truck parking. Sometimes you can park at weight stations too. Usually I figure out where I am gna be at the end of my day and leave around a hour room to find a spot

Hey...this thread has got me thinkin'. Anyway, in that mother of all TMC threads, I think one of the drivers had created a template add on for MS Streets & Trips that would overlay all of the known truck friendly parking lots onto the S&T map.

Isn't there a TTR member that used to work for TMC? I forget his user name.

Didn't know there was an app for that. When I did OTR smart phones weren't even out yet. So it was useful for me at the time.

Yeah that's great advice if you could actually follow it. Drive down the road and get caught in a traffic jam that was caused by a 10 car pile up. crawl through it for a few hours and you will not have enough time to get to the place you planned to park.

Well, you keep thinking that way but all the trip planning in the world isn't going to keep a spot open for you where you have in mind. And you're going to find yourself in unfamiliar lanes and areas at times and this complicates things.

I've seen HUGE truck only parking areas such as one going into Southern VA on I-81, a ghost town at dark-thirty one day, and packed (completely full) at the same time, 14 days later. How in the hell can you "plan" for the unknown? Truck movement volume [on a nation-wide and region-wide scales] seems to go in waves and with no rhyme or reason and with no way to accurately predict or know this. i.e there is no crystal ball you can buy to know what you're going to be dealing with at 20:00, 550 or 650 miles up the road but you go ahead and keep that attitude and see where it gets you in the real world, sometimes.

When you have routine travel lanes, you'll know where you can park and where you cant. Take Dallas-Ft. Worth. The TA in Terrell and the Petro in Weatherford always have parking available 24 hours. The truckstops in Dallas are packed by 5.

The Lee Hi on 81 is a great place to park, I've never seen it full.
