I say go for it!! Any job you can get out of driver school is worth a shot.A job like the one you describe is even better, if you can do it and not screw up then you deserve the job. I took a job hauling liquid with super bs the day after i finished driving school. It was definately a case of "biting off more than you can chew" and alot of people would say it was way too much for a new driver. I was aware of the added challenges but took on the challenge anyway. I will admit it took some serious concentration and attention the first few days but once i was settled in i was really enjoying it and got hooked on what 62500 kg worth of truck trailer and liquid feels like!! Go for it , work your ### off and show them you can do it!

I would go for it, and don't wreck anything. You'll ruin it for the next greenhorn.

thanks guys, the terminal i'll be driving out of is about 10 minutes away from where I live. They didn't sugar coat anything and told me they'll work my tail off, which is good cuz I figure the harder I work the bigger my paycheck will be. I have to complete 3 days of orientation and then 4 weeks of training. I'm just ready to get out there and get to work, I've been out of work too long. My wife's driving up a darn wall and having no income sucks. Plus I'm used to long work hours so this won't be too big of a transition.

Good on you! take the bull by the horns and kick its ###!! To all the people who hang #### on new drivers take note, militrucker is what a lot are really like, guys who are willing to work hard and get on with the job! a new cdl doesnt mean th guy came down with the last rain shower, alot of newly licensed drivers are grown adults capable of doing a job right. sure there are hopeless new drivers too but militrucker is a good example of a guy willing to go hard and get the #### done. All the best to you militrucker!!

Thanks for that far Kenworth, I just hope that there's more newbie's out there that actually get out there and work. There's too many people in my generation that expect everything to be handed to them on a golden platter. My cousin #####ed at me the other day because he had to work over 25 hours this week and I kinda gave him the wtf look and walked away. Some poeple really amaze me how lazy they can be, even when their broke.
Lady K and The Challenger Thank this. -
So I just got back to my hotel room after my first day of orientation and I'm pretty impressed with the company that I chose. I took my road test today and the only thing that kinda caught me was having a transmission that wasn't as loose as a 5 dollar hooker. We took our road test in a Kenworth T800 and I have to say I didn't like the fact that I wasn't impressed with the space to get to the bunk but who cares I won't be driving one of those. The company put us in a nice hotel with no roommate which is nice. They're very safety focused and care alot about their drivers. I like that they're a smalller company and don't have a ton of trucks to keep track of. I also found out on my physical capability and health test that I'm going deaf in my right ear yay!
The safety manager told me they lose alot of drivers to this test which suprised me cause the test was too easy. Anyway two more days of orientation and then back home to start my 4 weeks of training. I'll keep ya'll updated on how things go.
The Challenger Thanks this. -
SWEET!! Sounds like this will be a good fit for you - looking forward hearing how things go for you

5 dollar hooker? Wow, big spender!

So I passed all of my test and am officially hired on with this company. I also signed up for that Open Road service and was curious if any of you drivers have ever had to use that service and is it worth it to have it?
