I want to shake them and tell them to wake up. Once they do they will already be in lots of debt. It happens fast. Especially if you have parents that live the same way and set you up for failure by showing you the opposite of what you should be doing.
Is it just me or are young adults under the age of 25 just plain lazy?

When I was job hunting, I would never get a response when applying online. But 90% of the time I could walk in to a place, shake the manager's hand, pass him a resume and after a short chat get a job offer either on the spot or within a day or 2.
They can push the digital world all they want but I still think the old ways were better.pete781693, Val_Caldera, Geekonthestreet and 4 others Thank this. -
Big topic of conversation here in Canada is affordable housing. Move 6 hours in literally any direction from Toronto or Vancouver and there's your affordable housing. But its a status thing to say you live in those 2 cities. Nevermind the fact you can literally buy a mansion in rural Canada for what a 1 bedroom broom cupboard sells for in Toronto.

Yup, coffee and avocado toast is what's stopping young adults from being financially stable. [sarcasm]
It's interesting when you look at actual data instead of anecdotal experiences, you'll find that behaviors aren't all that different from generation to generation. What has changed is realative costs of basic needs and barriers to enter the job market.
Housing costs have increased by more than 100% since the mid 80s, while overall basic needs only saw a 70% increase. In the meantime, the requirements for a job have increased - why does a bank teller need a bachelor's degree?

In short, the kids are alright. It's the trend to mercantilism that's the problem.Gearjammin' Penguin, ZVar, Rideandrepair and 3 others Thank this. -
Elkhart indiana is actually worth 1250+ in RENT for a 1k square foot 1 bath 2 bed place you earn no equity in?
Bussing tables or working part time secretarial jobs is going to get you over 36k a year? You can work 8 hours a week for 4 years and be able to save that into 28,000$ ?
What insane fantasy world do you live in?ZVar, God prefers Diesels, Tb0n3 and 3 others Thank this. -
Im not advocating handing anyone life on a silver platter, im trying to get rid of this ridiculous notion that because the 50s through early 90s were amazingly easy to work your way up just by showing up and not messing up too bad, that it is just as easy today, it isnt, we live in a different world, and that world has been shaped and formed by the selfsame entitled older generations forming policy for themselves, (think basically no zoning laws until they already bought and built everything they wanted) thinking that its just as easy today. It isnt.Gearjammin' Penguin, Geekonthestreet, Tb0n3 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Minimum wage never paid for an "adult" life, wasnt meant for it. It was ment for a first job while in school, an extra job while young and trying to make it, a retirement job to make a little extra cash, mainly to teach someone how to be prompt, how to be reliable, handle money wisely, a way to make it thru school and get to a Career.
Now, they go to school, get a 6yr degree in advanced mathematics, dont do the extra to become a , teacher... because
"i dont want to teach"
... then end up working the counter in a comic book store, for,,, you guessed it, minimum wage, trying to have an adult life. Never had a real job, always coddled by momma, never had to be responsible for his choices, now wants to complain and whine because he will never have a house.
Get a teaching degree, make 90k+ a year, or stick to the comic book store.
Your choice.Trucker61016, dwells40, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this. -
