Is it just me or are young adults under the age of 25 just plain lazy?

I can definitively state that it wasn't the government run school system. I went parochial school for k-2 and we got participation awards. When that school closed and I went to public school, no more "every one gets something". AYSO was parents run - participation awards and virtually no scoring. Swimming was parent run - swim meets were the main "fundraiser " (yes, it's a dumb way to raise revenue). It was found that giving out heat winner awards drew more entries, as did giving out ribbons to 32nd place. The kids didn't really care (except for the Orange Crush Classic where you got a six pack of Orange Crush), but the parents did. This was in the 80s.

When I moved into teaching and coaching I truly learned how much certain parents were behind the participation trophies and how "each child must be treated the same". Those parents drove me out of the profession.

Public schools got in on the action too - but I think it was more to placate parents then because the school administration thought it was a good idea.

 

EVERYBODY has a boss, including bosses. If your company is publicly traded he has a fiduciary obligation to implement things like automation if it's reasonably likely to produce/increase profits. The owners of the company are the stockholders. The management can avoid certain actions for a while based on personal preference, but once other companies are proving some certain change is working and you don't take the same action you are subject to lawsuits from the stockholders. If the company is privately owned you have much more flexibility.

 

While I assume that comment was sarcasm, how can anybody blame Gen Z for what they inherited? They're literally just getting started in life. (It's still fun to blame them lol)
Same with the millennials. Are we to blame for the poor choices of Gen X and the Boomers? No. But somehow we get the blame for all the problems.

 

I beg to differ with you on this one.

We took 2 years to find where the money was, and 8 years teaming at $180-$200k per year, to freehold a half million in primary residence, 4 rentals, 2 vehicles.

Bought a truck cash, trailer financed. She retired. Now I work half the year, or less.

I always feel I have to apologize for this - as in “I’m not bragging “ but - my point - to yours . .

The whole point in working like dogs for that time, was - to quote the corny quote - “Live like nobody else, so you can live like nobody else “.

Very few we recommended to teaming at ODFL lasted. Yes, we lost 10 years of our life, but I’m glad we did it in our 30’s.

I rarely see people that have a long term (10 year) goal in mind. As said - the question is usually “When is pay day/home time?”

 

It would be easy for me at the age of 58 to down on younger generations especially with being with a long term woman 27 years younger than I am who is lazy as the day is long .
But fortunately I have my 22 year old son and 17 year old daughter to dispell that myth .
The daughter excels in school and hasn't given me an minutes problem although I fear she may be a Democrat.
The son at 22 is a respectful ball busting republican that owns his own very successful lawn and landscaping business that he built from the ground up and owns outright toys I couldn't afford .
I constantly see people my age that are complete wastes of oxygen.
I think this subject has more to do with an instilled work and moral ethic than age .

I think that’s probably the root of this debate too.

 

In the days before masculine qualities were a hate-crime many men were told, felt, and saw it as their job to sacrifice their time, energy, and possibly their life to provide for their family. Women were even allowed to feel they could sacrifice their time, energy, and possibly their life to provide their family a happy and comfortable home. It was even acceptable that maybe 90% of men saw that contribution as coming from work outside the home. And acceptable for 90% of women to see their contribution as happening inside the home. Certain forces, with certain motives want everyone to remain comfortable and sacrifice improvements, if necessary, to just get by at the level others desire.

We aren't driving cars, using electricity, flying in airliners, watching videos online,etc. because everyone agrees spending time in leisure is the highest value. The world needs workaholics, so the rest of us slackers can go places and have interesting and affordable toys without working 168 hours per week. Each individual serves a role and each individual gets to choose, at least until the next monster with a blueprint for Utopia comes along.

 

There was literally never a time in history when off time wasn't valued. Men in tribal hunter-gatherer societies typically worked about 40 hours a week.

 

Parents are the worst. Youth baseball has been absolutely ruined by parents and I can't even say they mean well because they don't mean well, with too many parents it's not about their kids it's about them. I can easily see how school would be the same way.

 

Also concerning is the fact that many of them have no idea how to interact with the opposite sex unless it's through Tinder or whatever. It's like the ability to get laid the old fashioned way is purposely being bred out of the population so it's not even an option any more lol. I'm only 40 and even to me it's ridiculous now.
