Is it me or is it time to ban recap tires from on-highway use?

If you see a tread laying in the road with a bunch of wires amd cables... It's NOT a recap. Recaps are solid rubber.

Biggest thing that causes blow outs is drivers not checking tire pressure. Low tire pressure causes excessive heat to build up then... BOOM!!!

They seem to hold up better than recaps though. Seems like recaps are always seperating/peeling, can't say I've personally seen it happen with some of the virgin Chinese tires.

would you rather the drivers put the cruise control on, THEN go to the bunk to grab something, or maybe pee in a jug while driving.>??

if you're a professional driver, no matter what you are hauling, then you'd know how to get around them.

I didn’t listen to him, but watch, driver walks to tire, evidently looking for a problem and steer tire blows up in his face

    it's just you.

i have had new tires go gator on me, as well as recaps.

i had a very good tire pressure gauge, and i checked my tire pressure WEEKLY.

i did pre-trip inspections, in route inspections, and post trip. if i saw a nail, or anything else stuck in the tire? i'd call the company right away, and was either routed to a shop, or someone came out to me.

it's one of another, half dozen of something else.

just be fully away of the "Gator signs" in Florida.......those gators will EAT YOU

I’d rather have the “driver” act like a professional and stop in a safe location, not on the side of an active interstate. Ya know, like a professional?

I’ll get around them, haven’t hit a ####### on the side of the road yet. I’ve also seen countless accidents behind me in the last 5 years because people think that turn signal is a suggestion and not a warning.

The situation is even worse in states that limit oversize load speeds. Yesterday I’m rolling across I-10 in Arizona, 13’6” wide and limited to 55. The speed limit is 75 for everyone else. Jumping in front of 20-30 mph faster traffic because some selfish dip #### pulled over to make a sandwich is ridiculous.

I try my best not to be one of those but the one time I had to pull over on the shoulder to pee was on 287 where there are zero pull-offs or rest areas for miles and miles. I nearly passed out letting it go because I was waiting for an hour to try and find a place to pull off.

I had an infected tooth that I was waiting to get a root canal on and the only thing that really helped was lukewarm water so it was drinking a whole lot.

I get it, some times there’s no place to stop. I’m mostly talking about the guys that stop within eye stop of a ramp, rest area, ect.

What gets me isn’t so much the truck actually parked on the shoulder (which is the root cause) as the Jack wagon with no mirrors that will swerve into the left lane without looking or further thought. It’s their God given right to hit the left lane no matter who is in it. I hate buzzin someone on the shoulder. If I see them I will try to prepare but sometimes there isn’t really a lot of warning. They are creating a far more dangerous scenario but in their mind they are safe and courteous. Same with those that hit the left lane at every get on ramp. Asinine

A comment that consistently get brought up on here, is the number of gators in Chicago and other areas with a lot of container traffic. The vast majority of tires on container chassis are bias ply recaps, many of the carcasses are upwards of 20 yrs old. Unlike passenger vehicles, there is no age limit for tire carcasses for commercial vehicles. If there was a 10 yr limit, and also a ban on on-highway bias ply tires, the number of gators in many areas would greatly decrease.
