Your friend is lying. You'll only make that kind of $ doing local P&D or linehaul for an LTL company. You can't make any money at Swift, but you will gain the experience necessary to get a good trucking job.
DoubleO7 Thanks this. -
I just had another $4k+ week which Ill get the settlement tonight but that will put me over $25k in 6 weeks before expenses since I started as lease on the 15th of last month and should be well over $8k to my pocket once I get my most recent settlement.
$70k is really not unattainable after expenses as its just 1,300.00 week average which a lease guy should be able to do. Why people dont think he could of made $70k seems odd to me.. As a lease guy he should make that much if he's a runner.. -
Depending on the account and how he runs, yes it is possible as a solo company driver. I work an account that is split between Swift and Werner and we make about the same. 60k and I'm home every weekend, 66-70k if I stayed out for 2 weeks.
Ask around to multiple drivers on an account for a ballpark figure as to what they make.
You ask in here and 90 out of 100 answers will be bashing by people who have never worked for swift and have no clue what the hell they are talking about. They only see SWIFT and all of the sudden they are the all knowing of all trucking pay scales.
And just before someone decides to say it' not possible, here's the last paystub I got.Attached Files:

Is that one of those accounts where you unload the truck? If so, you are doing two jobs for that money.
Toomanybikes and Chinatown Thank this. -

Yep I hand unload every box. Not that bad. I probably only drive 35 hours per week.

$25.6k to the truck (at my 90 now for my 1st load of this week)
14k miles (almost 16k now)
$8.9k paid to me after expenses not including taxes of course. (This includes one week I went in the hole by $1,2k)
Now I do run pretty hard, I also do my best to have my self set up with a fresh 11hr drive clock when leaving my 90 so I can take another load right away.
I dont see any issues with a lease guy making $70k in his first year "if" he runs hard and smart. Now that doesn't mean everyone will do it, but I see no reason they cant.
I will say that I dont want to continue running like I do long term, its just too hard on you with out getting proper sleep. Im just trying to make as much as I can while Im under my 1 year contract for my cdl training so I can save to buy a used truck. I really hate the refer side of trucking, they can shove the 3am appointments, lumpers and ahole shipper/receivers up their @##.. I want to get my self a good used truck then go somewhere as a oo and run a step deck.
For the record I know 2 people who started almost same time as me and nether have made what Im making. I know they arent running like I do, but I also communicate with my dispatcher for getting a preplan for my next load. I let them know, hey Ill have x amount of drive time after my next drop. This way they dont have to think too much about what they can give me as they know the hours I have to work with.
I will also say, that as a lease operator at a mega Im paying a #### ton to run their truck.. After everything is said and done its costing me on adverage $2,5k to $3k to run their truck every week. Usually $1k of this is fuel for the record.. Once I can get my own truck I will make a lot more even after figuring for repairs.. Truck cost is way too much at a mega but considering I pretty much put nothing down, thats the trade off you have to accept.Last edited: Dec 28, 2017
