Now you're wrong. I'm probably in the top 1% of miles turned on this forum.

So, you're a trucker who moonlights as a salesman,so tell me...

How many of the students you tutor drive 4 hours a day on the clock for free?

All of the ones that make three times what you do, and will own there own trucks.

There's no shame in being a union man. I was in a local for years.

Okay, this is where I apologize. I thought you were being sarcastic, but I see now you're not.

Only one problem, I live and work in the south. As far as I know, you won't find a union anywhere near.

Again, I thought you were being sarcastic on the union thing, I apologize for reacting the way I did.

Isn't that your commute? They let you use company vehicle to commute to and from home. And you're not happy? Then tell them no thanks and drive your personal vehicle from now on. Problem solved.

    Sigh!

The point was that they didn't bother to inform me that four hours of my clock EVERY DAY would be wasted. This not only looses me money up front, but also on the back end as I have a grand total of 7 hours of drive time each day with which to earn money.

So have you asked if you drive your own personal vehicle, can they run you for 3 or 4 more hours?

I just slept in a drivers lounge, tried to sleep, for two nights freezing my ### off, then handed the man a few thousand dollars and thanked him for fixing my truck.

This is the life we lead.

    We love whiners.

They probably thought you understood the situation. Well, live and learn. Next job interview you'll be better prepared. By the way, a lot of us have been thru the wringer more times than we care to count. Lots of good knowledge being shared here. Don't take it all so personal.

Well...Youre not getting a bad deal.Free company vehicle 1350 mile commute per week to and fro.Free fuel.If you break down its on them etc.Im just amazed youre willing to drive 270 miles a day to work. You cant blame them.I Dont know...but,I Dont think I would go thru the hassle of driving 4 hours just to work. You must live way out in the country...I mean if theres No jobs for 135 miles.Anyway seems like you are both "getting screwed" ? Almost no company is going to "pay" you to take their truck to your home. most company drivers consider that a privelege while I consider that more of a hassle (for me, if the thing breaks down at a terminal/truck stop shipper/receiver, at least it's 100% their problem.)

As someone else pointed out, they are losing at lot of money hand over fist just letting you take it home. Fuel, wear and tear, mileage tax, etc all comes out of their pocket, not yours. Unless it's detention or layover, or breakdown, driving out of route to get to a repair shop, no company is just going to pay you to "drive to work."

I live close to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN. Some 9-5ers and even graveyard shift nurses commute literally almost as far as you do on a daily basis, some over 100 miles one way. The clinic also provides shuttle bus service for workers in some of the "larger" communities close by. (Winona, La Crosse, Owatonna, Albert Lea, Mason City, etc) Should those who drive two hours to work or take the bus be paid for their time in the bus? What you are asking is almost the same thing.

So let me ask you this...without the extra driving to and from home that you are figuring in, how much are you making compared to a straight truck driver? If you are making close to $1000 per week gross or more and sleeping in your own bed every night with enough legal time off, get your year in and move on if you find something better. Most day cab drivers I see still work their tails to the bone just for the privelege of sleeping at home during their 10 off.
