Why does the company waste all that money? Seems to me getting a room for the driver enroute would save them a lot of money.
Is the driver ''volunteering'' to go home every night?
Or a sleeper?
I'm missing something here.
Is my company putting the wood to me?

I'm surprised that the OP has been able to use the truck for commuting to the extent he has
The megas do a lot of cost accounting..
Eventually some back-office bean counter will wake up to the fact that that particular truck is running a lot of non revenue miles.
Somebody in operations is going to have to answer some questions and, no matter what else happens, using the truck as a personal commute vehicle is going to come to a screeching halt.snowlauncher, Dave_in_AZ, gentleroger and 5 others Thank this. -
Just remember some people are so stupid they have no idea that they are stupid...
He knew he lived 2 hrs away. He knew iit was a home daily job. He accepted it and now wants to cry about free Transportation.. Wtf
He not required to bring the truck home. He chooses to because he probably doesnt have a car and company was kind enuf to allow him to wast there fuel and maintenance on a driver that can only work 10 hrs and have only 7 hrs of drive time... They probably barly braking even on this arrangement and he complaining...gentleroger and LoSt_AgAiN Thank this. -
Hmmm, I originally had a different thought process, but after a rethink...
Short answer, no they’re not “putting the wood to you”. You’re putting it to yourself.
Long answer, You’re actually lucky they let you drive the company vehicle that far on their dime.
Say you hired on to a job at a factory, donut shop, nursing gig, whatever and the place was 135 miles from your house. Whose responsibility is it to get you to work every day? YOURS!
What makes you think they should pay for you to drive to work and go home?
I’m bring my truck home every day. My pay isn’t cpm. It’s by the load and hourly, but I don’t put the 45 minute drive from the shop to where I park on my time sheet (timesheet is honor system).
I’m actually surprised they hired you, pretty dumb on their part.
All that said, if they’re paying the other drivers for their deadhead miles, then they have to pay yours. They can’t have two sets of policies. So, check that out if you want to push the issue.
Just don’t be surprised when they show you the door if you choose that route.
Frankly, I’d consider a lesson learned and look for a better gig.Last edited: Dec 8, 2018
Dave_in_AZ, TB John, 88 Alpha and 2 others Thank this. -
It is not the hiring that Frank refers to.
If I had to do something wtih a company 135 miles and am not paid for it daily like it's supposed to be, over 7 days that's what" 940 miles unpaid? A month of that would be very valuable.
The company is taking advantage in a financial and blatant way. That has to be stopped. -
Dave_in_AZ and Frank Speak Thank this.

That would be my advice to the OP. Drive his own vehicle back and forth. I doubt seriously if the company is making him use the truck for commuting.Last edited: Dec 8, 2018
Dave_in_AZ, Snakeschasingcars and TIMPTE 527 Thank this. -
The fun part about this is...
If this was a factory or office job there would be no question about if he got paid. It's a long commute, but still just a commute to work.Dave_in_AZ, LoSt_AgAiN and Frank Speak Thank this. -
You’re just new to the industry and don’t know the lingo yet. When they say they pay for all “loaded and unloaded” miles they mean to and from the customer. Not from your house. Any experienced driver would know this whether they’re otr, local or whatever.
sealevel Thanks this. -
A limo would be cheaper and everyone would be happy.
Just passing by Thanks this.
