My dm knows me by name. One thing about the qualcomm is. They know your exact hours. dont let them tell you otherwise. I got a load home and the plan was I get home underload and then they will have someone repower the load for me so I could take my home time. Anyways they told me they had someone. and I asked when the driver was going to be there and the night shift said well he didnt set a eta and I asked about how far out he was and roughly hours. And he came back with 211 miles and he had 4 hours and 23 minutes left on his 11 and 5 hours and 26 minutes on his 14. I mean right down to the minute they know!!!!
Is swift a good company?

Thanks very helpful. i am starting to see like all jobs it is what you make of it. there is no PERFECT company. BUT YOU CAN CHOOSE TO FOCUS ON THE NEGATIVE OR THE POSITIVE. I am also learning the negative guys or gals seem to get more negative. probably because the way they are communicating the DM or whoever gives the loads. so no one wants to hear them so they just don't deal with them. SO thanks it has been helpful.
-
my DM knows me by name as well, I can call and say "hey its Jakob" and he gets my info ready as hes asking what I need
-
Not several. I can pull up your logs with two mouse clicks and a couple of button presses. Quicker than it takes to say this senence out loud. If he is going through several screens, he needs to learn how to use the computer.

^^^ ... now, if that is true, then how is it that planners are sometimes offering loads that make absolutely no sense in terms of available hours? Especially during my first three months solo I was turning down over 25% of load offers and coming back with times I could make, only to have loads pulled or modified. It is getting better now. Almost like they are testing to see if you are aware of trip planning.
-
They are not testing, but they may be being influenced by drugs.
At least, that is the general impression I get sometimes.
Or, maybe they are just desperate to get a load covered, to cover their own behind.
My current load, we both knew, I could not do with my hours that were coming in.
Every message had an attachment that once I started the load they would give further instructions about what I was to do with it.
No further instructions came.
Now I am on a load that I can not complete in time, and my DM and others are trying to fix the situation.
It's not just new drivers that this happens to, as I have been with Swift for nearly 3 years. -
Now, you say it's getting better? No, it's the same ... you're getting better. Whether you're cognizant of it or not, you are getting instinctively better at judging how to run and efficiently use your hours.
Eventually you will get to the point of looking at a preplan and wonder why the system thinks you need that much time ... the loads I turn down due to time issues, are almost exclusively due to too much time on the load and the schedule can't be changed or the load tcalled. -
Yup, Plus-1.
Strict 10 hour sleep breaks.
No time added for pre or post trip.
Little time for drive-time breaks.
No consideration for the new 30 minute break.
No consideration for fueling times.
No consideration for traffic, construction zones, slower roads.
Or for shippers/receivers that require more than 30 minutes for a drop/hook or 2 hours for a live.
If you can beat Plus-1 times...
You are either running illegal or unsafe or - you are just as much a machine as that computer.
Me?
I'm not a machine or cog.
I seldom accept a plan without giving myself more time to do it.
And yes, sometimes it seems like it is getting better. There are weeks that I accept every pplan without mods.
But it doesn't last long.scottied67 Thanks this. -
I would say it is a a good company. But I am having a major problem with the Plus 1 program. I suppose there are others who love it and the new drivers hired on who only know Swift since Plus 1, know no other way to truck.
Swift seems very happy with their Plus 1 program. I imagine service failures have gone through the roof, their solution, get rid of those drivers and have only the drivers who eat sleep Plus 1. Swift likes the program so much they are projecting it onto their customers lol (not really, maybe). The last load offered, get up and get rolling 10 minutes ago to get ontime lol. I moved the pick up time out to the afternoon since there was so much time on the load, why rush rush to go get it and sit all day on the other end? Anyway, they accepted the change, I went to pick it up and the guy said it would not be ready til the evening fully 12 hours after the offer was made to my truck. I sent messages asking them to adjust the delivery time since it is a drop at a 24/7 distribution center. They said they sent CSR a message then went quiet. I got up from my 8 split sleeper and sent mac 22 to kind of 'remind' them and they gave me a service failure. I ran the truck full speed for a 5.5 hours stretch (my poor dog) and got the load in to the final right on time, of course they said just drop it in the back. Service failure was removed.
It's still a good company but I can see that when they want you gone they do have their little passive aggressive tricks. Trying to get home to the west coast, they offered me a load 2 states away to pick up and deliver all the way to the hurricane zone in Georgia. then the next load offer going to upstate New York. These were the only 2 load offers all day long on a Friday. But it is still a good company. -
Gotta love the Plus-1.....have to drive like a maniac to meet Swifts deadlines, then Swift goes on a rampage because drivers are getting too many speeding tickets.
Makes about as much sense as the garbage the Federal goobernment comes up with.scottied67 Thanks this.
