Do you know of which LTL companies that are only working P&D drivers 40 hours? I'm local now and seems every driver I talk to who does PD is working a lot more than 40
Is the beverage side of trucking the only one that allows a "normal" work schedule??

Just for a example, i run for a private fleet. Start time for all but 2 of us is 5 am. Off at 1:30 pm, or within a hour of that. I know quite a few guys at similar type company's, they average a 6 to 3 or so. 8 to 10 a day, rarely 10. When the bulk of your customers close at or before 3 pm it helps...

I've heard working for a township/municipality can be close to having a normal job. Likely with better benefits too.
I am curious here too though, pulling 60-70k/year locally is easy to find around here but ive never seen an opportunity for it with a normal 40 hour work week, day shift, M-F.
Somebody's got it made out like that but good luck finding it. -
I do about 65-70 a week local. You could check local fuel jobbers. I ran a lube truck and a tank wagon and did about 45 a week. You could run a mixer truck. Both jobs usually start around 6/7 in the morning. When my kids start school I'll go back to that kind of schedule but my wife is taking care of the little ones so I gotta bring home the bacon.
bottomdumpin and Sho Nuff Thank this. -
I do 65-70 doing TL local-extended local. I would literally be pissed if I had less than 55 hours a week. But then again, around here you will not make more money for working less hours.
Even the biggest single grocery hauler to this area, you gotta stack them hours on if you want to live the material life.Last edited: Dec 12, 2016

I do LTL furniture to small stores and warehouses. Most of them open at 8 or 9 am and are closed at 5. So that's about the only hours I can work unless I'm driving to get to my next stop for the morning. But I usually work 45-50 hrs a week on my 70. So yes it is possible. And the money is great as well.

Looks like you chose the wrong line of work to get into.
