I have been noticing so many layoffs all over the country and now with so many immigrants arriving it makes me wonder if the driver shortage slowly disappearing?

Not everybody can be a truck driver. Only the people who truly love the job and are committed. Why would you give up seeing your family, friends, use public bathroom everyday, eating cans food or disgusting truck stop food everyday, just for $30,000 a year? Talking of course the new drivers.

A factory worker, walmart or a teenager who works two jobs makes more than 30k.

I don't think the driver shortage will be solve anytime soon. New drivers are getting paid less than what they were doing before. And only the people who love the job stay

New truck orders have fallen off drastically meaning carriers see a long/mid term slowdown coming so new hires will have to slow (think attrition)

No way could someone work two crappy retail/food service jobs and earn 30k a year. Know how many people for one thing they hire for places like that? Lucky if you get 40 hours a week.

The demand for new trucks is down, rates are down, capacity is up. There is no shortage, and has not been. If there ever was a shortage rates would increase. If and when rates jump 30% or more, then there is a shortage. What there has been is many companies that cannot retain drivers because of miserable employment conditions, and they need more seat fillers, or want to cut rates with new hires and lower rates.
