Normally I run US-277 to connect to I-20 from there, but MyRadar showed a developing WALL of supercell thunderstorms with potential for tornadoes along my route. I dropped south to get under the line of storms, but the system blossomed even larger, blocking my path southwest.
I was hit by a blast of wind, the "Fist of God", just before a small town. I didn't know it at the time, but that blast of wind shattered the plastic wind covers on the front of both rear view mirrors (not to mention pushing me hard into the incoming lane on a two lane road).
When I saw a wall of hail a mile ahead of me I did a U-turn on a four lane and was GLAD to be in an ungoverned truck as I headed east on a two lane. Screw the 75 mph speed limit. I eventually worked my way southeast to I-20 and hunkered down in the men's room of a truck stop. I ran close to an extra 160 miles dodging storm cells that day. MyRadar saved my bacon.Broke Down 69 Thanks this.
