How do you get around the law that says we cannot even *reach* for the electronic device let alone touch it and manipulate it.

How about you quote the full reg instead of twisting it to make a point?

    • Reaching for a mobile phone in a manner that requires a driver to maneuver so that he or she is no longer in a seated driving position, restrained by a seat belt.

That "fly" thing sure came in handy last year. I was pulling 95K gross with a three axle trailer from eastern Oklahoma to Midland, TX when I consulted MyRadar in Wichita Falls, TX.

Normally I run US-277 to connect to I-20 from there, but MyRadar showed a developing WALL of supercell thunderstorms with potential for tornadoes along my route. I dropped south to get under the line of storms, but the system blossomed even larger, blocking my path southwest.

I was hit by a blast of wind, the "Fist of God", just before a small town. I didn't know it at the time, but that blast of wind shattered the plastic wind covers on the front of both rear view mirrors (not to mention pushing me hard into the incoming lane on a two lane road).

When I saw a wall of hail a mile ahead of me I did a U-turn on a four lane and was GLAD to be in an ungoverned truck as I headed east on a two lane. Screw the 75 mph speed limit. I eventually worked my way southeast to I-20 and hunkered down in the men's room of a truck stop. I ran close to an extra 160 miles dodging storm cells that day. MyRadar saved my bacon.
