The last Nigerian I met was in China teaching English. What a joke, some students had been in his class 2 years and I couldn't communicate even basic words with them. The parents thought something was wrong with me because I couldn't understand their little darlings English. Sure, I have a Southern twang, but a Nigerian twang with adulterated English is like something from another planet.

If you work for some companies long enough, you could BECOME homeless!

Pretty much,as long as you meet all their requirements you will get hired.More and more companies are having trouble finding drivers which is why many have up their pay package. There are non drivers with cdl's at companies that are driving because their company doesn't have enough drivers.Far as hiring the homeless,as long as they have a physical address or a p.o box and in their hiring area they'll get hired.Actually no one is hired until they go thru all the red tape during orientation. So really you're considered pre hired until then.

Hiring standards for many "trade jobs" today (trucking included) is minimal at best. And whatever they are today, they will probably be into the foreseeable future. I can't see anything on the horizon indicating change other then perhaps lowering the standards to an even lower standard (lower age limit, lower misdemeanor/felony thresholds, lower recent jobs experience)

Health standards/fitness requirements may be on the rise, though, but that's still not much of a hindrance for most as it's mostly in the sewer today.

All snarky comments to the side, there are criteria that need to be met before a driving job can be offered. Different carriers have different criteria, and the more desirable a particular job is the stiffer the requirements are.

As an example, most training carriers have lower than industry norm criteria. They take students right out of school, so there's no previous experience needed. They are a bit easier as far as prior driving issues (in personal vehicle, of course) bit are pretty standard in prior drug use convictions (bad), criminal history (could be bad), and job history (could also be bad). A DUI (very very bad) pretty much kills a burgeoning driving career.

Non training carriers WILL require a set amount of driving experience (varies by carrier and current need. Some as low as three months, others up to two years or more) as well as clean records both criminally and driving.

If you are a decent individual with few or no black marks on your record, it is pretty easy to land a job. If, on the other hand, you are a consistent screw up with a history of negative issues, I wish you the best of luck.
