One day last week, I stopped at the Pilot at Exit 40 I-49 Bunkie, La.

Pulled in and got in the first pump by the store, behind a truck fueling.... or so I thought. I waited... and waited... for probably 30 minutes or so. I couldnt get in another lane because there was a line at every pump.
About 20 minutes into this, the manager came out on the golf cart, stopped, looked up into the truck, then pulled away. Made her yard check & came back to the truck. Again, stopped, looked up into the truck & pulled away. No one to be seen. I assumed as I am sure she did, that the guy was in the bathroom, shopping, or getting something to eat etc, since he wasn't in the truck.
It had to be at least 30 minutes & the drivers door popped open. The driver (a person of other origin) gets out, goes to the water hose & washes his pot & dishes....
He got back in his truck and about 2 or 3 minutes later pulls forward & parks in front of the fuel island. I pull up but he didnt give me enough room to get fuel in the passenger side tank.... the hose wouldn't reach. It took all of the mental strength I could possibly muster to walk up to his driver door & ask him if he would please move up some more so I could fuel.

This guy fueled (I guess), then fixed his lunch sitting in... the... fuel... island & ate.
It has taken me almost 2 weeks to settle down over this to the point that I could even post it without exploding.

Seriously, its no wonder people get shot at the fuel islands.... seriously.

I had one at the Loves at Willow Springs, Mo, Highways 60/63, parked at fuel island, last one, 2 had mobile homes fueling and we’re going to have to back away from pumps… rest 2-3 waiting.
I sat for about 20 minutes..Then dude in shorts comes out with a bag of Mcdonald’s, gets in truck.
    Eats.
    Gets out throws bag/garbage away.
    Then pulled up.

I got fuel/Def, Put flashers on, Backed away, parked.
Made me a sandwich and left.
    He was still there.

I think it’s the schools now just having them park wherever there is somewhere big enough to stop versus training them, and having to get out of truck and actually do their job.

    I could be wrong.

I know a guy who was behind a guy who during the morning rush at a pretty busy loves. The selfish ####### had a bucket, soapy water, brush, and his own hose hooked up to the water spigot. Full on hand washing his truck with people waiting for fuel.

my buddy went and nicely asked the guy to pull up, the situation escalated, there was an obvious language barrier. Selfish prick finished, put all his washing stuff away, got out a vacuum and started doing the interior.

ya know how uneven those truckstop parking lots are, my buddy stumbled on the way back to his truck and caught himself of the box jockeys seal. Sounds like karma to me.

Time is the only thing we can’t get more of in this world, I can’t stand when others selfishly waste mine.

maybe all truck stops ought to have a wrecker on duty, 24/7/365, and yank the SOB's away from the fuel island, and keep'em on the hook, for a ransom of like $500 cash...no pay....take to impound yard, sucka......

this crap was not as bad when i was long haul or even regional. i clearly remember all my instructors telling the entire class, "when you're done fueling, pull up to the yellow or white line so the next driver can fuel up".

but that was back in the days long before the CDL was even a glimmer in the DOT's eye, and truckers were actually considerate.

in my "later years"...yes, sometimes some ice hole would be blocking the fuel island, but it was certainly not for a long time.

then thankfully, my last 2 or 3 jobs. we had onsite fueling, so no more truck stop BS.

but i still stopped, for my coffee or soda, and them dang tasty roller dogs.

It's never going to change unless the community starts "educating" them.

One of the reasons I fuel in the yard as much as possible, or the small places the rest of the time, I would have to be one step from death to go into a #### hole pilot

I'm sorry you had to experience that clear display disrespect. That's a perfect example of the "Me" mentality I've been talking about since the 1990's. I drive local so I was lucky to get out of otr before the stupidity reached today's level. But luckily we only have a few of those idiots running local.

You can punch them out or cut the seal off their trailer. Not much else to do if the truck stop manager won't do anything.
One time I had a 2 lb bag of sugar in the truck. The guy blocking the fuel islands pulled up and still wouldn't move forward enough. He went in the truck stop, so I dumped the bag of sugar on top of his fuel tank, not in the fuel tank, just on top. Then left the empty sugar bag beside his truck. When he came back out, he panicked. Didn't say anything to me or anyone else. He drove off.
