What do you guys and gals do to pass time when you're stopped at a rest stop for hours at a time. Or even a truck stop? DVDs, video games? Sleep I'm sure. Just wondering

In our day we ran a vcr/tv combination in our 2001 freightliner century with a inverter (*3000 watt peak, 2000 sustained installed by Armarillo Freightliner behind the new TA (Former burned 76)

Television, Movies all around. Laptops came later that year. Soon two of them Nets as much as we were able to disconnect the truckstop telephone wire and reconnect to the dailup modem. Unless you are in Oklahoma where they send telephone over microwave radio long haul instead of wires.

All sorts of games back then. Now it's online games which cannot be too hard to connect.

You also had the new 24/7 satellite domes coming up to replace park and view. You can recieve the same internet, programming and download movies on the move inside your sleeper. IF we were not watching or sleeping, we were doing constant chores to maintain alert be ready to go at a moment from dispatch. We were a team that responded to emergencies nation wide and canada so we were more stressed than normally.

9-11 was a special time with the television. Most of the time you drove... 50 miles and your programming went out of range. But for three wonderful weeks after 9-11 after they activated all the secondary backup Television relays built for cold war nuclear time we never lost a channel moving one state to several states in fact. It was flawless. (And had to be.. in those days.) We will never have television that good ever again. Here in little rock we get from two towers, one in Redfield almost a hundred miles (That one is or was in the mid 60's a world record holder in the free world at 2000 feet elevation) and another off Petiet Jean mountain.)

Everything is migrating slowly and surely into a luxury back there in that sleeper what with the coming of 5G which will once approved by FAA will feature real time communciations 24/7 with anyone in the world.

YEA. I am a prepaid cell myself. If you were in seattle and got hit with a thousand dollar roaming international tower out of canada one month... you would be too.

I dabbled into smart phone internet, text and voice and find it annoying. So expensive. Text is nice with my quiet living and a few people in my circle. But internet in a phone that fits in the pocket with the same CPU processing of a Pentium 4 1.6 gig PC desktop from 16 years ago galls me. And I build computers for a hobby.

If my phone buttdails the net in the seat, poof all that time vanishes in a few minutes.

Another thing the #### thing constantly cries to connect. Only now Ive learned to stick the #### parasite in either a air plane mode, shove it inside a faraday cage or disallow data connection requests in the settings.

And all that to get yelled at by dispatch? No thank you.

    Hick Thanks this.

Usually after work u watch 1 hour of netflix. I have t mobile unlimited data. If I'm doing a reset, I walk, Netflix or play with my laptop.

U be surprise how short amount of time truck driver have. Even on a reset, it's laundry, cleaning and doing chores. I had more free time working a normal job and being home everyday

We used the movie theater inside the truck stop and heckle the heck out of bad trucking movies. 60 truckers hooting and yelling made for a entertainment. Imagine that. Truck all day or night and then sit 2 precious hours for a bad bandit and smoky film...

I am an old man so I sleep. Sometimes alone.

I like to go on Backpage.com for what ever city I am in a look at the escorts available and try to remember when I was young. Doesn't work so much anymore. This post is making me so sad.

Backpage has alot of stings. I watch it happen on satellite late at night people johns getting corraled into cuffs for doing that dirty for money. If I were you I find something else because the Law is all over Backpage.

Be it far from me to say anything at all, but I cannot resist owing to the change in culture from hookers back in the day in person to this internet stuff. Yeesh. Thank god Im getting up there in years and don't have to fool with that. Or want to. LOL.
