I might already know the answer to this but I'll ask y'all to make sure... Would loading and unloading trucks eventually lead to a driver position after a while? Would it be possible after a couple years to be a driver? Any estimates on experience from people who have done this would help with the knowledge y'all have...

Here is a list of all the threads you started over the years asking whats it like driving for this company or that company... can i get a job driving this type of truck... do I need a cdl for this or that... etc.

    https://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/search/53271540/

8 pages and 143 threads. I’m not trying to be mean but dude, trucking isn’t rocket science. If you want to do it just go do it. We will be happy to help you along the way but... enough beating around the bush already.

OP has gotten a lot of ridicule over that name, but he has stated in one or ten of his many (and I do mean MANY) past threads that tequila was his dog’s name.

I seem to recall it was suggested by a moderator at one point that he put some kind of explanation for the tequila name on his profile to deter more ridicule, but evidently that never happened.

Most LTL companies have dock to driver programs where you can earn your CDL in weeks, not years. Of course, if you'd actually START TRAINING instead of starting threads you would have your CDL and be a trainee driver by now. Takes three weeks to get your CDL, four tops. You've been whinging on for SEVEN MONTHS!!!! Just what are you doing to that poor dog?

@I love tequila loading and unloading trucks likely has no path to becoming a driver.

A medical card and CDL/permit however...

If you can find a union job it might be possible my first real trucking job was one and in the training they did they had 2 dock workers that they put though cdl school(they didn't offer that to others newhires) and since they been there over 10 year they bid on a local day route that they both won and I think they went in making top driver pay if I recall correctly

You can become a driver within a few weeks with the FedEx Freight Driver Aprentice position. That’s probably one of the best programs for a new driver. Make sure you commit to it for for a minimum of one year or you will have to pay them. Hopefully there’s a terminal close to you.

@jmz and @McUzi can give you better insight about it. They went through that program.

I was fortunate that I went into it with my CDL and endorsements in hand, so it was pretty easy for me aside from the parallel parking part (parallel parking wasn't part of the training or DOT test at TMC).

Start to finish until they put me with a city driver trainer was 4 weeks, and was a pretty well put together program, at least at the yard I was at.
