Now before anyone says anything, YES I do know you get these questions a lot. YES I do know most companies will not hire until 21 due to insurance. And YES I understand "don't do this business go to school" etc. I've been a "Trucking Kid" since I was able to stand inside a truck. My father is a truck driver and since I was 16 he's been teaching me how to drive an 18 wheeler. I am 18 now and I just graduated Trucking school and have my full CDL A. I am desperately calling every company I know of and all their answers are is "21 and over son". I know most places don't hire 18 year olds, but If anyone knows any company that will or a good place to start with please let me know. I live in Northern New Jersey (Bergen County). Thank you!

Maybe you can team with someone?I'm sure insurance is the real kicker,or
companies would be hiring 16 Yr olds.
Try a local ltl maybe get some dock work, and yard driving in.
Good luck to ya,and keep that license clean.
Wish my son would drive. It would be nice to ride along with him.

Under 21you can only drive Intrastate which means you can only drive in N.J. So you need to look for company that has routes that don't cross state lines. Maybe beer delivery, you may have to do some "B" work for a couple years.

Well i live in pa. I got 5 applications signed already first one is back in August (milk hauler) and the last one is a month ago. Only one got response as a diesel mechanic, I asked my master mechanic today to talk with trucking manager to put me there for tri-axle or heavy hauler position.

Try household goods movers. They sometimes hire under 21 for driver helpers and also driving within the state. Check the yellow pages for household goods movers.

Go visit some places; it's easy to say "NO" on the telephone.

Try intrastate which means you can't leave the state but can be 18 to drive.Ask your dad for help on looking for an intrastate company.Otherwise by the time you do drive for a company you may have to take a refreshers course.

I would go to some of the local towing companies, they would love to get their hands on a class A driver, age is not so important to them. You would drive a smaller truck most of the time but would get big truck seat time when they get busy and have a truck wreck or something to clean up. If you are in Little Ferry go see J&M in Wayne, they have a big fleet, or Tuminos they have terminals all over your area. Those are two good companies, benefits, vacation, uniforms, good equipment, etc. I got my start as a diesel mechanic, tow truck driver, and drove school bus at 18 years old. It served as a good foundation for where I am today.
