I totally agree. I have a very dear friend that left JCT after 6 years, simply to make more money. He gets paid on percentage with another reefer outfit and averages way more than $1.11/ mile NET. I won't go into details as its not my place to divulge the particulars.

Just to be clear, I totally agree with the fact that your mpg and fuel price is the biggest deal when trying to make a lease program work. Absolutely essential.

And yeah, I run for an o/o and dispatch myself off the load board. And I am paid percentage. No way are freight rates the same across the board..not even close.

Correct. But to be clear, they don't charge you based on your dispatched miles, they charge you based on the mile you turn in. So if you hold out a 1200 mile trip till the next pay period, you won't be charged the $276 worth of truck payment until you actually turn it in.
Payroll and accounting hate me.... LOL. Some of you may recall that a couple of years ago i took 38 days off to go to Europe. I never missed a paycheck. Granted, a couple were only $70 or so, but i never went in the hole and covered my weekly fixed expenses and variable truck payments.

Revenue is not the point. It's net that matters. Why have $5000 in revenue and only keep $1000 of it if you can have $3000 revenue and keep $1200 of it?

I'll disagree with that statement until the end of time as its TOTALLY INCORRECT.

Exactly.. as an owner-operator it's not what you gross that's what you net is what you make and a lot of these guys just don't get it... a lot of them still have the company driver mentality

Cause I wouldn't be pulling .90cpm reefer freight which in turn means I would be making more then a company driver and be able to save the money I would need for an overhaul when the time comes but like I said if you guys are happy letting companies take advantage of you more power to ya!

I knew a girl in high school...think her name was Sarah...she took advantage of me. Boy, those were good times! But I digress. So is JCT taking advantage of their drivers like that? Or something nefarious? Went back and re-read your posts and you're sorta vague on how exactly JCT is taking advantage of their drivers. So, please explain. Thanks.

Oh, and Sarah...if you're out there, call me....

It's not a "company driver" mentality as you put it. Net is all that counts regardless if you're an o/o or company driver. I don't know anyone with any sense that gives a rat's rear end what they gross. That's not to say Gross revenue doesn't have a meaningful purpose. It's a great way to compare apples to apples by eliminating elected expenses.

Example, let's say you and I work for different companies and we both gross $5k a week. But, I have elected 401K, health, vacation fund, party like it's 1999 fund, etc... and you have no deductions. Even our taxes will likely be different because we have different family circumstances.

Obviously, our net pay is going to differ significantly. That would make it seem you're company is the better place to work, which may or may not be true.
