I made the decision to get my CDL a few months ago and really couldn't wait to drive a truck for a living. However, now that I'm licensed a lot has changed in my family life. Two of the most important people in my life are not doing very well health wise. Is it possible to find a home daily job with less than 6 months experience? I'm open to beverage companies or going onboard as a trainee, whatever it takes to get me home everyday. I'm hoping this doesn't sound selfish because I know a lot of people on this forum sacrifice home time to make a living. Just seeing if it's even possible.
Thanks guys!

Check with the less than truckload (LTL) carriers like SAIA, Old Dominion to see if they have any openings for someone with 6 months experience.
Food service such as Reinhart, SYSCO, US Foodservice as most road drivers do not like to work freight. Cement truck and dump truck will be hiring in the spring if you dont find anything before then.rockyroad74 Thanks this. -
I hope everything works out for you.

I suggest you learn to weld. I can't say I know anyone who has sacrificed home time for great pay. Only cause thats all available or trying to run from something.
Good Luck! -
Thanks guys. I'm not having much luck so far. Any good sites for trucking jobs?
-
You need the Craigslist postings. You are really wanting to work as a company driver for a Company not a trucking company. One of the outfits that deliver to their own stores. Fastenal is such a company but I do not know if they have a warehouse near you. Also the auto parts stores and such are good places to look into. Not knowing Virginia limits what I can tell you.

You could try some of the local feed mills like cargill or george's hauling feed or even driving there live haul trucks. Not sure on there policies. There is a sysco in Harrisonburg too.

Thanks for the feed truck and live haul ideas Dreamer. I'm really wanting to get into Sysco, maybe after their expansion. I know someone that drives for them and they aren't hiring atm. I see your close by in Elkton, do you know of any others?

When you apply, ignore "experience required" and apply anyway.
Many companies hire new CDL grads on a "as needed" basis, but don't advertise it.Moon_beam Thanks this. -
Thank you Chinatown!
