I can see honking your city horn before backing but DURING the back? That is one more thing to add to the act of backing...which apparently some aren't doing so well anyway.
Getting out and looking isn't too much to ask I guess, but I agree with others who have said it depends on the situation. Thanks for catching me up on this one.
just want to do i more thing

What will the company's response be when a driver gets out to look when he really didn't need to, and is struck by another vehicle?
Fewe Thanks this. -
My messages, when remembered, are always after im done backing and doc'd.
They usually go like this..
goal..beep...beep..beep...goal..
I tend to mix it up a lil here n there just to let them know what a PITA it is to type this stuff when ive got 5 other trucks waiting on me to doc into a tight spot.
Im betting with all the 3-point pushing they do, we will soon have to send in a 3-point goal type message soon.. seriouslyFewe Thanks this. -
Never sent one, never will.
Had that discussion with my DM when this BS started. Nothing more has ever been said about it.scottied67, DenaliDad and Fewe Thank this. -
I have never sent it in either. I have gotten out a couple of times to look when necessary, don't get me wrong. I'm not gonna set up crossways in the parking lot then pop brakes, get out, hop back in grab qc to type in a message, meanwhile trucks are trying to leave and come in off the main road.
I was approached by a safety dude with a clipboard survey asking all drivers he saw if they practiced the GOAL and sending the messages in. He told me Swift made a deal with OSHA for this solution in order to stay in business.
Why are not all truck companies doing this? I'm just an independent contractor, they can't tell me where to fuel let alone to send innocuous messages when I'm trying to do my job.Fewe Thanks this. -
i have never sent one either. not even in jest. what a typical middle management rule.
and the bit about osha making a deal with swift has kind of a rotten offal odor to it. -
hunnerbunner and Fewe Thank this.

Just a update. If you can ever get a local job with young kids and a wife at home. I would highly suggest it. It is working out well for me. 2 overnite trips a week home the rest of the time. Legal logs and average 64 hours a week for 3 weeks now. Pay is better than I received at swift but that is a mute point because everybody works different. Trucks are older but well maintained. Set at 65 to 68 depending on the truck. No idol restrictions. Pretty much run wisconsin, iowa, illinois. All in all a good move for me and my family. Long hours but I can sneak home anytime I am near and I run by my house all the time. I am happy with my decision and the new drivers I work with. Its nice to have a family atmosphere at work. Once again this works for me. Drive safe out there
scottied67, Injun, Tapeworm and 1 other person Thank this.
