I had some trouble one particularly bad day and stayed out for the good of the rest of the class.

Showed up the next day and we were into the offsets out in the yard soon enough. They were curious as to the trouble the previous day.

But to actually FAIL a trucking school? eh... that's hard to do. You would have to be someone that simply cannot do it and there are a few.

When Zero gets the rig to try docking, we all stand back. Eventually we all work on zero. Find the one thing that he likes in backing. If there is no line, drag a boot heel and make a line. Aim on that. Done.

there is not general base line for quality school from companies, where as school quality at a college of some kind would be a better normally more detailed course. I would say faster learners use the companies only the real bad learners,or ones with closed minds perhaps don't make it. Example you place a atheist into a church that does't make then a christian. You can place a person in classroom doesn't mean they are student and open mind. I would never recommend a company training over actual accredit training .

The fact is that the CDL phase is the same for company schools and after that its all just "fluff". For someone who CAN go unpaid for the time it takes to get through a college course on trucking.. its a great idea. The problem is that this still isn't rocket science and people have to pay their bills. We ran a three week course that was PTDI certified.. it was pretty long hours at 160 hours. Another fact is that students kind of plateau after the first two weeks and their skill set really tend to be clunky and junky for a while. The first three weeks is when they are as good as their going to get for months. Time driving around in a controlled environment really isn't helping them that much. I am all for extended training in lots of subjects and would have loved to have had the opportunity to instruct at a tech college.. but I too couldn't wait forever for a position to open. I do not think that even the tech colleges can prepare people for the rigors of what is the OTR trucking.. especially when the majority of drivers who are now experts with 6 weeks under their belt are calling all the training and any training worthless. This is an industry problem.

Nope they can't prepare you for everything thats school in general rather medical school or trucking theres things they cannot prepare you for they can tell you what to expect on certain things, they can let your more in depth on truck weight, bridge laws, they can teach you a lot run away ramps btw they take you out in street too I imagine driving in bigger city more educational then a small town. As for mountain driving you won't normally get much but theres areas with 6% grade they take them out which is a small sample compared to some these MT passes. as for time for there bills maybe they don't have time or even the money still sometimes it's good idea to invest in yourself. You can certainly make bigger gains off your self then say actual investing in stock typically so I mean there was a buddy I knew made 120k first year trucking oil field to be exact with 8k$ investing in himself where can you make that kinda gain in stocks or other then being rich.

Many get frustrated and quit or think they are terrible because of their ability to back up. People learn in different ways and some times hard headed mega trainers don't have the patience or knowledge to teach a new driver. I had one student struggling to figure out which way to turn the steers when backing. I had him move his hands from the top of the steering wheel to the very bottom of the wheel when backing. Suddenly it clicked for him. This little trick won't help all newbs, but it takes patience to teach.
