Hope has never served me one I either did what was needed or I wouldn't have food, when you go there have one intent learning screw those other people trying get those cdl your not there have fun your there obtain a CDL.

I have seen, heard many people fail because they get dumb just by being around the clowns in the class and at the hotels. at hotel I recommend study not go get drunk like some people in my class went. no one gave me crap growing up these guys for all I know they have rich parents and this is just a game. I have self taught myself many trades, I may go back as a last resort if I get burned out like welding example to get jobs. I had to teach myself trades out of books and practice with equipment most my training there was no teacher trial through fire, thats actually true I have had my pants catch fire while welding not watching out for the sparks and you be surprised how fast you move them pants off when that happens.

You started a really good thread. Good responses here. But IMO, it's coming from the wrong angle. You're asking about FAILURE. Are you planning for failure?

"Well, no Six...I'm just worried about it."

Understood. This is something new. But the ONLY way that I would be concerned about failing in the slightest would be if no one ever passed. We don't go to school to fail. Why do we go to school? Not trying to piss you off, hand...but your FOCUS is wrong. Get your mind set correctly. Why do WE go to school?

"Ummm, we go to school to pass."

No. WE go to school to L-E-A-R-N. Get your mind on learning, not passing or failure. The reason why so many struggle is because they showed up to school unprepared to learn. See, passing or failure means NOTHING if you didn't learn. You pass school, but get into a trainer's truck. If your mind isn't on learning, you will suffer those weeks with the trainer. If your mind is set to learn, you will pick up skills much faster. Let me know when you've set your mind on learning.

    Luck in battle.

Yes. Sometimes 50% of a class at a mega gets sent home.

    1. Failed background checks
    2. Failed drug tests
    3. Failed skills test
    4. Failed driving test
    5. Failed because they stopped showing up, normally because they realized they’d fail #1 or #2

It’s quite amazing that they then end up with the drivers we see. Definitely not saying I was any different when I was new. But it’s of little wonder they have the turnover they do.

I’ll say this again for any new members here. This site did a better job preparing me for being an actual driver than anything else. Including my friends who’ve been driving for decades. The collective knowledge shared here is why forums are important. This insights on the how and why were most important.

@Chinatown if you’re looking for a school or work. He can give you options. You still have to look into each.

Read @Ridgeline posts. You will face the cold hard truth of this job and will get a glimpse at big boy trucking.

@scottied67 and his YouTube page helped me on downhills and backing.

There are so many characters here that can help you if you just read. @Dave_in_AZ , @TripleSix and @MACK E-6 to name only a few.

Hey, @otterinthewater you forgot one very prestigious mentor of all though. I'm sure it was a slight oversight, so I'll put the VIP here in the line up...... @x1Heavy

I could have prepared you a lot better. In the words of @Humblepie, just crank and go. @snowman_w900 taught me how to play words with friends while pretripping. @OLDSKOOLERnWV showed me how to find Mexican restaurants in West Virginia. @wore out taught me how to run 80+ and average 65 on paper logs.

This site is a wealth of info to those who search.
