Small world OD. I grew up in Plano. My parents still live there. Felt strange years ago when I was on a Wal Mart dedicated account with Schneider and driving around my old neighborhood delivering to one of the 30 Wal Marts in Plano. Knight actually had me deliver a few loads to the east side off of Plano Pkwy to various small warehouses.
Knight drivers....What's your 20?

My parents lived in Richardson and I lived in Plano for 10 yrs b4 getting fed up with the traffic on what then was called Central Parking Lot, and moved to CO. Plano was about 100K ppl when I left,. but has now jammed into Allen & Frisco....was once 'the place to live, but now too many ppl in one area for me!Last edited: Jul 31, 2012

Yea way too many people for me too. I bought some land in '99 just north of Greenville and have called that home for about 5 years. Back in the 90's before truck driving, I was driving 10 miles to Addison for work everyday. Took me ONE hour each way. That's when I made my escape and part of the reason why truck driving suits me just fine. Can't stand that boring daily routine that never changes.
OverDrive Thanks this. -

Yeah, I also got 'burned out' with 70 deg A/C and driving a desk in an ofc for several years. I started my own co. and developed some patents and sold all & invested, so as to pursue my boyhood fantasy of 'driving the 48 states in a big rig.'I spent time in the summers as a youth on my uncle's farm driving big equipment, was a shade-tree mechanic in HS, and always loved 'big powerful noisy machines!' When I started driving in 98, the Detroits were loud rumbling diesels, you could hear the whine of the turbine, and Jakes werent muffled yet (blap, blap, blap). Loved it!!
But, little did I know about all the hardships involved with OTR (living in truckstops eating TS food, public restrooms & showers, bad weather, driving big city rush hour traffic to meet delivery times, bad directions & no parking, and also being the target of tickets by local cops, etc.).
But I dont regret it....it's just a little 'tarnished' now as I remember it...Last edited: Jul 31, 2012

Just got parked at the Loves on 40 near the junction with 81. Saw the storm clouds about to let loose and parked. Sure enough the bottom fell out a few minutes later.

Camped at shipper in Sandston, Va. Will grab my load at 07:00 and deliver in Hagerstown, Md just after noon. Then planned to grab a load in Stanley, Va and run it down to Charlotte. Approx 600 mile day if all goes well. That will give me 3200 miles in 6 days and Charlotte will be ok for a reset.

As usual, things have gone not as planned. Working on my 4th hour at this shipper in Stanley, Va and all they'll say is we'll call you when it's ready. Was supposed to be a drop and hook.
