I am 26 years old. When i was 18 i got my first "felony" for bank fraud. result no jail time probation. In 2009 My junior year in College i received my second "felony" for conspiracy to manufacture marijuana. I Was never caught with anything it was basically hear say with barely ANY EVIDENCE however i pleaded guilty due to the advise of my lawyer and did not go to trial received 6 months probation. I have 100 percent faith that i will overcome this because of my character, hard work, and dedication to provide for my family while pursuing a career im excited to begin. I am starting my CDL training soon and just hope some company will give me a chance..any advice from my future fellow truckers? THANKS!
Knowledgeable answers please.

Sorry, but if you don't have a job lined up before you start school - you are probably wasting a lot of time and money.

The drug felony is going to be extremely difficult to get past in this industry if at all.
You will never get a hazmat endorsement or a TWIC card. Not that, that would be the end of the world but with all the drug testing requirements and insurance regulations. Getting hired could be close to impossible. You would have been better off with a felony murder charge. Not to mention fraud and being responcible for an expensive truck and high dollar load. Fraud is like stealing. And drugs. The two most deadly no no's in trucking.mje and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Might be a couple more years to find a good company willing to hire you call around to a lot of companies and ask questions to see how much chance you have at finding a job .

What's wrong with Carolina Cargo? In situations like yours, companies like that are a godsend. There are only 3 or 4 companies that I'm aware of that will even consider your application, with the 2009 conviction. Don't misunderstand me, I'm on your side, but in reality you can enter the trucking field, but in the beginning your opportunities are limited. For one thing you can't enter Canada & some companies move freight to Canada. For starters, take what you can get in the beginning and don't job hop for a few years.

Have to agree...a felony conviction of less than 5 years is an automatic disqualifier for most trucking companies (at least the non-"outlaw" companies you wouldn't want to drive for anyway). And one of them being a drug conviction? You probably need a 10 year length of time for that one...and some companies consider that an automatic NO no matter how long ago it was. Hate to be the bearer of bad news (and I DO hope there is a company that'll be the exception); but it doesn't look good man.

i know that there are companies out there that will consider hiring with a felony depending on circumstances, but the bank fraud may be tough to overcome. not trying to sound judgmental... i have no idea of the details, and its none of my business. but id imagine any trucking company would be leery of hiring someone with felony theft in their past. hope im wrong. sounds like its well in the past and youre trying to "walk the line" so to speak. wish you well.

You'd be well advised to find someone that will hire you before you spend any money on driving school.

Thanks! Do you all think its mostly the recruiters that will automatically disqualify an applicant with Coffee stains on his resume like mine, or should i try explaining my situation to someone in a higher position at these companies

It will be the background that will sink ya. Less than 5 yrs and some companies 7 yrs with a felony is like being in the titanic without a life boat. Back in the day if u could drive u had a job no one really cared about your background now its different. Good luck to ya . RW
