I'm pretty sure I know why you didn't do well here. At your stated very low revenue, you would've made an extra $13,000-ish a year with your own trailer. I really hope you were taking a lot of time off too.

    CJndaTruck and spyder7723 Thank this.

Hey he had the 11 and 13k to invest in his equipment,
Remember any per mile revenue above you set goal is all profit. One or two loads a month that pay a extra buck or two a mile extra makes a lot of difference on the bottom line.
You may not need all the extras for every load but is sure is nice when you score big.

Yep its like step deck ramps. Won't use them every load, but not having them eliminates a lot of good paying freight.

I wasn't making an argument against making the investment. Just showing that the amount could be even higher than what had already been posted.

Why do I see dozens of dry vans every day and only occasionally Ill see stepdeck landstar o/o?
Is open deck freight cheap on Landstar or they just dont have a lot if it?

I've been seeing a lot of Landstar vans in Florida lately. Are the rates really good coming in? I usually don't see as many LS vans as I have been seeing within the last few weeks.

Because they don't have a big blue star on the side, run different lanes and park on the back row well before sunset.

Almost 9000 trucks, about 2500 are open deck. Almost 4 to 1 vans over flats, so you'll see more vans, quite simple isn't it.

    CJndaTruck and fortycalglock Thank this.

Potato season. And melons will be running soon. The two times a year a van can get a decent rate out of florida

Sounds like the perfect time for me to make the move. I've been reading up on a few other companies but Landstar is where I really want to go. I hope to be able to take the hazmat test next week. That's the only thing that's holding me up.
