How can MGM be liable for what someone with mental health problems does?

I get that and feel the same way. But is that the only way they can deal with that? Why can't they just get a judge to make a ruling and be done with it instead of making thousands who have legitimate concerns feel like a criminal who is guilty until proven innocent?

And there is a lot of question about how the hotel security handled the situation once the event started, and before local LE assumed control of the situation

In essence, that's all they are doing. If there were holes in the security, I hope this blows up in their face...but on the other hand, I don't want to have to go through a TSA-like screening process just to check into a hotel room (which is what it will lead to if the hotel is held liable for the criminal acts of a patron who rented a room). Precedent likely exists to exhonerate the hotel...how many drug deals and prostitution rings are busted up taking place at hotels, and the hotels are never held accountable for what happens on the property. This really isn't much different...except for a bunch of people got hurt or killed. Guests committing crimes on premesis has never really affected hotels up to this point, unless staff was directly involved. I would imagine that will hold true here as well.

Go ask Warner how someone loosing control of their car, hitting one of their trucks that was 100% legal, gets a 90 million dollar judgement against Werner?

Civil courts are all about emotion, and not so much based on facts. At least not on most high profile suits I've studied.

What right do "people" have to those profits? If the corporation didn't do anything wrong, why should the corporation have to suffer? You do realize that corporations are made up of people, right? Owners, employees, investors...all people.

If they did nothing wrong then let them prove it in a court of law. But remember the victims are also concerned about the hotel’s actions once the shooting started which is highly suspect based on timeline reports and lots of discrepancies from one account to the next.

Agreed, MGM should not have to defend against a thousand different cases but they also don’t have the right to simply say “we’re innocent”, then to sue the victims families?? No. Doesn’t work that way.

You ought to go into politics...your ability to contradict yourself is astounding. How exactly are they supposed to prove they're innocent in a court of law without actually going to court? If they wait, they'll have to defend against 1000 different cases in 100 different courts. They aren't seeking anything from the victims...just to have a court rule on the matter.
