Hell I used to make trucks move at Home Depot all the time if they didn't call. If they called, I would be like yea sure... come on over. Dudes with drywall loads that weren't tarped I even let park under the contractor awnings so their #### wouldn't get rained on. Everyone else I would send to the strip club up the road. One morning I woke up and a guy wasn't watching his mirrors turning in there, so he was stuck in the ditch at the porn shop/strip club.

Imagine that call to the company. Anyway, call ahead. Most people won't tell you no. You'd be surprised at the places that will let you park.

The trucking industry is TOTALLY at fault for not providing enough parking for their equipment. They, mostly the truckload carriers, have been shifting the cost of terminals to 3rd parties like truck stops, Wal-Mart parking lots and privately owned property for years.
You and your company are responsible to find an appropriate place to park. No one else.

I don't know if I would put it all in the truck load carriers. I've seen a number of places where an ltl carrier has taken over part of a truck stop without paying for it to use as their meet location for line haul drivers.

People such as myself that has been around trucking for 40+ years clearly see what is causing this parking problem. It is actually multi faceted. Today there are thousands upon thousands of acres of property that is today fenced in or otherwise off limits to parking. Prostitution, drugs and trash is the primary reason. Added to this is the increase in size of trucks today over the early days. Truck stop operators like Pilot and Loves operate with small truck parking area's and even when new TA's and Petro's opened they don't build large parking like before. It costs a ton of money to keep these places open now. States and local area's have also enacted zoning laws that have driven out trucks because of mostly noise.

When my father drove he had so much experience all over the country and especally in his company's traffic lanes where he knew he could go park. A cul-de-sac or a place to park along side a curb in some out of the way place. These places are getting rare and rarer everyday now.

I will not blame the companies themselves for the parking because most can't afford to operate terminals in every city.

This parking issue is systemic in nature and because there is no one single reason for it there is no one single solution to it. I'm glad I'm now retired and am not having to deal with it anymore!

I skipped over many of the posts so I don't know if this was asked to the person who said to move.

Hypothetically speaking how much do you think it would cost if someone to pay to stay here for 10 hours?

God that ain't no joke. I was at a TA or Petro(think TA) just north of Texas in Arkansas. I parked in the back and went to sleep. Woke up and saw the place was still empty so I moved up into a pull through spot up front. Scrolled Facebook for about 15 minutes and suddenly an army of pups came rolling onto the lot. Had to be 100 daycabs just dropping trailers everywhere and swapping, sitting around for like 2 hours and leaving. In that time probably 50 trucks came and went because there was nowhere to park. I don't really get too pissed about people parked in weird spots when a truckstop is full or they are frankly too tired to back a trailer without hitting me. This really pissed me off.
