I have a friend that is dealing with the VA over a serious medical issue that developed after a minor surgery...I have to say, as a civilian, I am less than impressed with how the VA does things, and the quality of care our troups get after putting their life on the line for the country.

Just checking in. Haven't been in the unmoderated section in a while.
I spend a lot of time battling in the Political section. Seems as though I have a lot of adversaries.
The arthritis in my right knee is bad enough these days that I probably couldn't drive a truck. Can't seem to get the VA to agree to a knee replacement.
I did start volunteering as a DJ at our church's radio station. I do the Heading Home Show with another fellow that airs weekdays from 4pm-7pm. We prerecord the show midmorning.
He's 70 and I'm 62, so we call ourselves The Geritol Boys. We have a lot of fun doing it. He's originally from Massachusetts, and of course I'm a Florida Redneck. So we do a lot of cracking on each other.
My hands have regained almost full flexibility. I can close my hands enough to hold my M&Ms now. The numbness in some of my fingers is probably permanent. But that's OK.The Big T, Speed_Drums, mitrucker and 4 others Thank this. -
My father is one and some high school friends and my cousin.
My cousin started getting sick a few years after returning from Vietnam. Out of control diabetes; lost the tips of all toes and fingers, then kidney failure. The VA paid all his medical expenses including two kidney transplants. He eventually lost the battle and died.
While experiencing all that, he acquired a college degree and became a high school football coach.Speed_Drums and xlsdraw Thank this. -

I appreciate the trucking industry and those that do it. I'm glad that I had the opportunity to do it for a portion of my life. I miss it a little.
I believe that God has a plan and it's good that I'm available to serve now in at least some capacity.JohnBoy, Speed_Drums, Jimbo56 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thanks for everyone who shared their experience with Leonard Express. My last company just closed down their whole OTR division so I'm looking for a job and Leonard's is my top choice RN unless they don't accept me. It's been really helpful to see your experience. Nice to know that I can expect good miles and a true OTR experience.
xlsdraw Thanks this. -
if you have over the road truck driving experience, check out double J Transport who does contract with Leonard's express. they are burgundy freightliners pulling Leonard's express trailers.
xlsdraw Thanks this. -
I've actually applied to them too lol because it's like, double my chances right haha.
What exactly differs with them? Heard someone online say that Double J is worse but nobody knows you're a dog on the internet so... -

I applied and got them on the phone, and I qualify. They need 6 months of experience.
(EDIT: my bad, it's actually 1 year experience. Misremembered)Last edited: Oct 30, 2024
