A long. long time ago, at a trucking company far, far away ( SRT ), I hauled a bunch of temperature controlled hazmat.
Some of these things were in like 1000 gallon containers.
That's a lot more than those totes. Never had a tanker endorsement at that time, I do now.
But SRT had/has this computerized check/balance system you call in to before you leave with hazmat load, to make sure your legal. JBH has the same.

I do. I'm running 10 wheel bobtail delivering home heating oil. Working 50 hrs a week pays me the same as running 70 hrs a week doing dollar stores. Except now I'm bobtail now and way less work. Running 70 hrs a week pays elite ltl money. Without all the b.s. and without dragging a trailer around.

Update: My company today, just issued a fleet message asking who has tank endorsement. I wonder if they got cited or found a new customer who demands it or both.

Update II: They send out another message that basically says "stop calling drivers! Stop having kittens worried we now require some sort of HM or tank endorsement. We just need to know who we can send to a few accounts and who we can't. No big deal" LOL

Haven't had any shippers ask me about the tank endorsement but, brokers have been. For the liability reasons already expressed, some are requiring my company to provide proof.

Figured I'd necro this thread instead of starting a new one. I rescued a load from a driver who picked up totes of liquid latex. Just the other day the lead dispatcher said they talked to DOT officials who stated it only applied to permanently mounted tanks or some bull. Is there any difference for viscosity?

I think he is making it up or was misled. There's a lot of articles on the web related to this subject and they all indicate a tanker endorsement is required for hauling more than a few totes. And viscosity I don't think matters, regardless as long as it is in a liquid form.

One tote requires a tanker endorsement. And I'm not sure of the quantity, but I think once you're past a certain number of 55 gallon drums, you need it as well.
It's the easiest endorsement there is to get.

I have mine, but I don't want my company tricking drivers into taking tanker loads because there's only 4 with the endorsement. It's 1000 gallons or more total tanks and totes, 120 gallons and up.
