You need the last seven days and a current day log. Total of 8 days in your possession.
It is perfectly legal to use 1 sheet for the 7 days off, providing there was no duty status change.
Exception... If the 7 days off falls on two months, (July 31 to August 6), you will need 2 pages. One for July 31st second for August 1st thru 6th.

DOT will not care if multiple days are on one page. Anyone saying otherwise is full of it.

I guess I’m full of it.
The last 29 years at LS I have sent in logs that days off started in one month and ended in the next.
Probably several times this year, as I have only worked about 14 weeks.
Our log people are very picky, and I have never received a nasty gram about it.

When you first start a job I think in the paperwork you have to fill out for the last 7 days.

In your possession when you get pulled over you need to be able to show the last 7 days.

But if you've been at a job for some time or you are an owner operator for some time, if you take two months off those two months need to be shown in your records. You can't just skip that and write the last 7 days when you start. All of your time has to be shown in your records if you get audited.

I don't know what the regulations are, but myself if I had that kind of time off I would do it 1 page per month.

It may not matter but that is the way that I would do it.

Past employers I worked for had that rule when I ran paper logs.

Employer rules are not dot rules.

You're mistaken. If your employer's rules are stricter than the DOT rules. DOT rules say that they apply.

There’s lots of situations where paper logs are still used .
