I will be traveling by Greyhound this Sunday and most of Monday to meet up with my trainer on Tueday. Would I log my travel time as off duty or on duty not driving?

    No.

You are not employed yet and the Greyhound is off duty anyway. You are not driving it.

Thank you. That's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure. That was one thing they didn't cover in Orientation.

Does employment status have that much to do with it. We have our guys log all 3 days of orientation, but they aren't hired until the end of day 3

According to the (book) you are required to log traveling time unless you are afforded the chance to get a 10 hour break once you get to your destination. For those that may be curious it is on page 637 in the JJ Keller green rule book. BTW this person IS an employee of USA Truck because they have finished Orientation and have been sent by USA Truck to travel. Now the question is should you log it, I would not. No need to hose your available hours.

Good catch. I read it as going to orientation.

    Log as off duty.

Here's my situation: Completed USA Truck Orientation on 8/24/11. I live 10 minutes from the Vandalia, OH terminal, so I have been at home since waiting for a trainer. Since 8/25/11, they told me to log myself as at home which I have done. I don't have all the details yet, but I'm pretty sure I will be leaving here sometime on Sunday to arrive in Mississippi on Monday. I won't meet up with my trainer until Tuesday, so I would have a legal 10 hour break before meeting up with my trainer.

Not sure if any of this information would change how I would log my travel time, but just wanted to make sure all the facts were there.

    Thank you.

You are supposed to log On Duty - Not Driving (Line 4) entire time on the greyhound bus. You are paid per mile when on the bus and USA wants you to log it. When I was on the bus (24 hours) to go pick up my truck I didn't log it and USA didn't say anything.

Should you log it USA way? Yes. Would I log it? No.

I don't know the USA way, but if you are getting paid for sitting on the bus hourly I could argue you should log that as on duty.

    THBatMan8 Thanks this.

Either if you get paid or don't get paid, you log it off duty. You are not driving the bus, and you are not assigned to drive it. Remember that your job isn't a prison.

Orientation does, on the other hand, need to be logged on duty not driving.
