Is there not a safety pin to lock in when the dump is down that would ensure it would not rise up in transit?

    Brucely Thanks this.

Had that happen today on US 80 just east of DFW. Rock hauler had the dump bed up and hit an overpass. Knocked a huge hunk out of the first beam. Driver was taken to hospital with shoulder injuries.

Nope. Granted that is an end dump trailer so its almost a givin to never happen but dump trucks sometimes have to spread the load onsite so they get driven and raised at the same time.

That would cost an extra $20 on a 150k truck. No way a company will splurge for that kinda money...

The best way to fix this problem is to have a air operated pto control and run an air line from the down side of control to the pto on/off control. When you put the box down after dumping it shuts the pto off automatically. The only way that happens is when people forget to shut it off and the lever sticks in the up position a little bit or the up/control isn't adjusted properly. Sometimes the lever is in neutral and the up valve is partially open. It will raise very slowly. Also leaving the pto on all the time burns the pump up pretty fast but all in all it's a pretty easily avoided accident.
