I appreciate your stories and learn from them. I know the old days was much better (I am looking back 15-19 years ago, logging was so much easier and funner). Still had the challenge but wasn't as hard as it is today:biggrin_2557:

I am happy you was happy. Sad story you let yourself get so dehydrated (sp?) but I could see myself being that tempted in them days:biggrin_25514:

Yes I totally agree if you are in an accident and someone gets killed the feelings you are left with (if you have a heart that is as I am sure many do, did have one driver mysefl who had no heart and can't talk about it) has dramatized several drivers I know of.
    It's sad

Well I am one of those people who don't sleep much anyways... I guess some would refer to that as an insomniac, I usually only get 4 hours of sleep a day and I am good to go.... any more then that I usually find myself tired throughout the day...

3 full days day without sleep.. Had a filling fall out and just it killed me.. finally I was at the TA in Marianna FL and went to the emergency room.. They gave me a few good drugs and finally I was able to get some sleep.. Nxt day I headed out to Cali to finish the run.. After that I had them get me home to have that filling taken care of...

Well, at the time I didn't really care, I was a driving fool and loved to just run wheels off the truck. I USED to love trucking - OTR style - but that was quite a while back.

I'll just say that nowadays, there are a lot of so-called truck drivers that have no business being behind the steering wheel of a tractor-trailer rig, at least, not from all the insanity I see on Phoenix's freeways - which is a major thoroughfare from California to many parts east and parts east to California.
Ever since I started reading that Swift thread, I have been much more closely scrutinizing those drivers. The other day, I saw a Swift truck driving in the middle lane, perfectly aligned , staying there "just like a pro". I was REALLY amazed when I got up to the front of the truck to see the words "Student Drivers" written on the thing. Just ahead of him was a Walmart truck swerving back and forth in it's lane - that person either had been driving too long or was on drugs - I was tempted to call Highway Patrol.

I once did a second morning delivery from Kent, WA to San Antonio, TX. .

That's probably the longest non-stop (for sleep) trip I ever made.

    But, I didn't have a satellite baby-sitting me. . .

Hard to do that these days now that dispatchers (and safety) get to ride along with you (via the satellite).

    Ah, the good old days.

    Log book? Which one?

    Thanks for the memory.

One of AZ's finest stopped me just west of Phoenix for a DOT check.

He claimed I had changed lanes without giving a signal despite the fact he was the reason I changed lanes when he got onto the freeway. He couldn't have possibly seen my left turn signal. Which I had used when I changed lanes, as I always do.

I got to sit in his patrol car for nearly 30 minutes when I could not produce my (phantom) co-driver. She was at home taking care of the kids the same as she always was when we were running team.

He finally let me go when he couldn't badger me into admitting I was running a phony log book.

    That was a close one. . .

    Ha! I like that one!!!

I had a dispatcher force me out when I didn't have enough hours to complete the run. So I logged it the way I ran it, went over 70 hours and turned the logs in. The Safety Department alerted the Terminal Manager who in turn, called me into his office and wanted to know how I went over hours. I explained the situation where I had been forced out by a dispatcher "because he could".

I received an apology, in person, from the dispatcher the next time I was in town.

I ran a load of household goods for a boss who was moving from Detroit to Seattle. We left late on a Sunday afternoon and arrived in Seattle sometime on Thursday. He had his family in the pickup, pulling a U-Haul trailer because we couldn't fit all of his stuff in the 45 ft. trailer. well, OK, we also had another pickup and a Mustang in the trailer with household goods packed all around .....

So it took forever to get there and we finally had everything unloaded into storage and such. Time for me to head home.

He wanted me to hurry back to Detroit and I was of the same mind. I left out of Seattle Saturday afternoon and drove non-stop to Sheridan, WY. From what I remember, it took me 24 hours, and when I got to Sheridan, there were snow drifts everywhere.

Yes, I had forgotten to stop to eat and actually, I really only planned to stop at Sheridan for fuel. Once stopped, the lack of sleep caught up to me and I decided to get a room at the Holiday Inn across the street from the truckstop. Of course, by the time I got there, the dining room was closed for the evening. I offered to grab a quick bite at the lounge, but it was closed because they weren't allowed to serve alcohol on Sundays, so I was out of luck there too. I drank 3 large glasses of water in my room and passed out under the covers.

The next morning, I ordered 3 different breakfasts, much to the amazement of my waitress. She had never seen anyone eat so much at one time.

Heck, I get pulled over for no reason at all anymore. They just tell me they are doing inspections (which they are) and pull us over at random. I don't have to worry about driving junk equipment anymore, so it never scares or bothers me excepting it takes up so much freakin' time. They don't seem to care HOW long they keep you over there on the side of the road....
