In other words, I done got screwed. But I didn't tell him that. I just nodded and told him I would be in my truck when they figured it out.
About 1230 or so he came out to see me. Good news, he tells me.
But before he would get around to telling me what the good news was, he goes into this lengthy dissertation about how it being New Years Eve and all, it became increasingly difficult to locate people as the day wore on due to the fact that folks took off early.
I may have looked to him like I just fell off the turnip truck, but I was actually aware of this holiday phenomenon.
But I patiently let him explain it to me anyway. He may not have underestimated my intelligence.
I think he's just one of those people that like to be very clear about the details in a given situation.
Or he could be what some folks call a motor mouth.
Anyway, he finally gets around to telling me he talked to guy over in Plainfield that has a pump that might work.
Only difference was the outlet fitting was mounted 45 degrees off from this one, but everything else ought to line up.
It gets better. He said the guy would even deliver the part and it was on the way over now. Less than hour he said.
Well that was good news indeed as my thoughts drifted to Darlington.

One o'clock came and went. As did two, when I went in to use the phone to call my broker.
"Listen to me Ricky. The shipper has assured me you will get loaded today. It's his butt on the line here too.
I've moved a lot a boxes for this guy over the years. I'm telling you. There is absolutely nothing to worry about. Trust me on this" says Brian "Bondo" Bostich from Dallas TX.
Geez, talk about a snowjob. I'm used to being lied to, but don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.
"Listen here Bondo" I reply, trying to be even tempered. "You are in Dallas TX and I'm up here in Edison NJ.
And you want to know what I'm seeing right now? I'm seeing employees driving out of the parking lot.
Employees that won't be back until January the second. Apparently loading this trailer is the least of their concerns right now. And I'm thinking I need to be doing the same thing"
"Whoa, whoa son. Now don't go talking like that now. No need to do anything rash. We can work this out.
I just talked to the shipper five minutes ago and he assured me that part would be on his desk at 7AM on the second"
For those of you keeping score at home, the first thing out of his mouth was a lie. Right after "Listen to me Ricky".
"#### it Bondo. Now you want me to sit up here for the next two days? You can't find nothing else?"
As usual, he was unfazed. "Listen buddy, you know I'll take care of you. We'll get some more money on this load.
Plus I'll get you some detention. Tell you what, get you nice room tonight. Bring me the receipt."
    "Just one night?" I asked.
"I meant both nights Ricky. We have to cover this load"
Notice he said "we". I knew I was getting sucked in, and like they say, if you can't stop it, just lay back and enjoy it.

What do ya know, it works LOL
This story needs all the help it can get.
At this point I have two options:
    a) Keep going and try to redeem myself
    b) Attempt to gracefully wrap it up and cut my losses with as much didgnity as I can muster
I do my best thinking while driving, so I will try to decide what to do this week on the road.

My husband left 16th of Nov...still not home...will be twelve weeks when he finally does get home...think 10 was the longest before this time. Usually it is 8 weeks.

The longest I ever stayed out was about 6 weeks. Back in '99 through '01 I used to stay out 4 weeks regular and that was almost too much. I never was one for staying out for months at a time. Kudos to those who do and can.

Anymore, I stay out about 12 hours before I get back home... :biggrin_2559:

Normally never did more than 4 week's in a truck when I was riding with my step dad but when I went and hit CDL training, I was out for 6 1/2 month's before getting to come home. Got back, everything looked different, seemed different didn't even seem like a place I belonged at. Stayed out for such an extended period of time will do crazy thing's to you when you do make it back home. My family even seemed like they weren't family at all but more like people I didn't know. I'll never do that #### again. Was about ready to kill my trainer in the last few week's anyway.
