I retired on 2006 after 42 years of trucking. At 76 I still have my CDL (exempt) and my wife who is 70 still has hers. Do I want to drive commercially anymore? NO! But here in Missouri the cost of an exempt CDL is not that much more than a regular DL.
PS: In case anyone wants to know, exempt means no physical certificate needed.

1983-93 quit driving and RIP ed my lic.. "I'll never drive again" spent the next 18 or so yrs as a carpenter.
2008-9 the housing market to a dump. Lost a Very good paying job and it was not coming back.
2011 now almost 50 yrs old found myself going thru training to do something I already knew.
Millis is where I went stayed a bit over a year and been pulling tanker since.
If I had started in tankers in 83 I'd of never quit

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

i see allot of drivers complaining they are only making 40K or less OTR, im driving local milk tanker. i work allot but i will be 60K plus this year, easily. you can make money in this industry but you have to 1. find your niche. 2. be willing to work

TMC seems to turn out pretty good hands. Tidy tarp jobs and nice equipment.

Talked to a bloke today that had a blue truck. Said I ain't seen no blue TMC trucks. Said he was so happy as a company hand, he bought his own rig and hired on.

He was the 1 out of 20 hauling a load out of Texas today. For what $ I didn't ask - His truck hauling a company trailer at 73% I thought was reasonable.

    My 2c.

    Good luck.

yeah, my state did not/does not offer that..

i'll bet dollars to doughnuts, they will in the future, but in the end, i really did not want to continually go thru DOT physicals, and the hazmat bullcrap (if i did not drop that endorsement).

i feel VERY comfortable knowing now, that i can walk into any AAA office (as a member) and get my ordinary drivers license renewed with out the long wait in lines, at the DMV, CDL section. and the ordinary driver's license is WAYYYY CHEAPER than any state's CDL will ever be...we are cash cows to the states.

My CDL expired on my birthday, which is in a winter month, that plus, the DMV is jammed that time of the year.

Try Decker Truck Line. Seriously, a good company, but do your own research. They don't have a training course but uses the local community College. Ask what path you should take.... Good luck
